| 2 | An article by The Amargi examines how “isolated” attacks against Kurdish seasonal workers really are.
Following the recent attacks in Zonguldak and Düzce, Turkish authorities again described the incidents as isolated disputes. However, The Amargi points to a recurring pattern stretching back more than a decade.
Since 2011, Kurdish seasonal workers have been reported beaten, shot, attacked by large groups, called “terrorists” for speaking Kurdish, threatened over their identity and, in several cases, forced to leave the areas where they had travelled for work.
The cases cited include Eskişehir, Kütahya, Giresun, Sakarya, Yozgat, Afyon, Antalya and Niğde. In Sakarya in 2019, seasonal worker Şirin Tosun was shot in the head and killed.
