| 7 | According to a report attributed to Channel 12, senior Israeli security officials (outside the Prime Minister’s Office) are warning that the emerging US–Iran framework deal could seriously harm Israel’s core security interests.
They argue that Iran only accepted the deal because the US conceded key demands, and they expect immediate consequences such as renewed Iranian economic relief and increased regional activity.
Their main concerns are:
The agreement weakens the “credible military threat” against Iran.
Uranium restrictions are softened (described as “dilution” rather than removal).
Iran’s missile program is not properly addressed.
There are no binding requirements to stop supporting regional proxy groups like Hezbollah.
Enforcement mechanisms are seen as weak, with doubts about what happens if Iran delays compliance.
They also compare it to the Gaza ceasefire framework, questioning whether the US would enforce consequences if Iran fails to meet obligations.
In short, the officials warn the deal may ease pressure on Iran without achieving key Israeli security goals, especially regarding nuclear capability and regional influence.

| 10 | Shebaa Farms is a small border area claimed by Lebanon but controlled by Israel.
Lebanon says it is Lebanese land occupied by Israel since 1967. Israel says it was taken from Syria during the 1967 war and is part of the Golan Heights. Syria’s position has been unclear at times, which has added to the dispute.
The UN generally treats it as part of the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan Heights, but Lebanon continues to claim it.

| 11 | So-called Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former commander in Al-Qaeda's Syrian branch, said the Syria–Lebanon border demarcation issue remains unresolved and too complex for immediate negotiations.
Al-Sharaa said Damascus has discussed the matter with Lebanese officials on multiple occasions but has chosen to postpone formal talks while Lebanon deals with the aftermath of war, internal challenges, and the presence of large numbers of displaced people. He argued that disputes over areas such as Shebaa Farms, overlapping border villages, and competing territorial claims require a calmer political environment and more time before negotiations can move forward.

| 12 | Arab Center Washington DC:
In January 2026, Damascus gained control of the region after the collapse of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the US-backed and Kurdish-led coalition of primarily Kurdish and Arab fighters established in 2015 to combat the ISIS.
The region changed hands not because Syria’s newly established national army proved more capable, but because Arab tribes switched sides, defecting from SDF military structures and handing the region to the Damascus government on a golden platter. Yet control has not delivered inclusion.
Arab tribes that helped the central authority regain control are now largely ruled by outsiders, and many feel that the capital benefits from the region’s natural resources without giving local people their fair share.
In consequence, the same grievances about regional inequality that existed under Bashar al-Assad—and that contributed to Syria’s 2011 uprising—are now building up against the new government.

| 13 | Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei:

“We are now completely burned out. Everything has become expensive, there are no basic necessities of life, and unemployment has increased significantly.
