Nepal will need $4 billion to $5 billion for reconstruction after a devastating flood hit its border areas this week, Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle said on Saturday in a statement to Reuters. The estimate was given by the country’s finance minister.
The damage assessment relates to flooding in Nepal’s border regions. The minister described the rebuilding requirement as at least $4 billion.
The estimate points to a large fiscal burden from the flood response and reconstruction effort. Further government planning is likely to center on mobilizing rebuilding funds.
