Aerial footage filmed from a helicopter early Thursday morning shows the scale of damage caused to the Northern Venezuelan coastal cities of Maiquetía and La Guaira, following yesterday’s pair of major earthquakes, which each measured a 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude and struck just to the west of Caracas.
Most if not all multistory buildings appear to have suffered severe structural damage, with many having collapsed, likely leaving tens if not hundreds of thousands without shelter, food, and water across Northern Venezuela.
The official nationwide death toll has risen to at least 180 dead and over 1,000 injured. ~25,000 people are missing.

Iran’s IRGC Navy has criticized the new Oman–IMO temporary maritime corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, saying the route was announced without coordination with Tehran and warning that only Iran-designated corridors are authorized for vessel traffic.
In its statement, the IRGC Navy described the proposed route as unacceptable and said it posed serious safety risks, while warning ships against using routes not approved by Iran.
The remarks came after Oman, in coordination with the International Maritime Organization, opened temporary passage routes to help vessels move through the strait amid mine risks, congestion and disrupted shipping following recent regional fighting.
