Act of Hope
O my God! relying on Thine infinite goodness and promises,
I hope to obtain pardon of my sins,
The help of Thy grace, and life everlasting,
Through the merits of Jesus Christ, My Lord and Redeemer. Amen.

TWELVE METHODS OF PRACTISING THIS DEVOTION
(continued)
The third is the feast of the Sorrows of the Pure Heart of the Mother of Jesus, which is celebrated on the Friday following Passion Sunday.
The fourth is the feast of the Resurrection of the Heart of Mary which was restored to life by the Resurrection of her Divine Son: "(Her) spirit (was) revived," and overwhelmed with the greatest joy imaginable when this beloved Son visited her after His Resurrection. For that reason this feast is observed under the name of the Apparition of the Risen Jesus to His Most Holy Mother, on the first free day after the octave of Easter.

MOTHER OF GOOD COUNSEL
GIFT OF COUNSEL IN MARY
(continued)
Her soul was, in fact, at all times turned toward God, to whose inspirations she ever responded with alacrity. In her, far more than in any other saint, the following words find their full and complete application: "Counsel shall keep thee and prudence shall preserve thee."
~ Very Rev. Alexis M. Lepicier, O.S.M., The Fairest Flower of Paradise (1922) | 61 |

[151. continued] Also when in all the functions connected with the service of God we pretend to have a pure intention when we have it not: “And seek to please not God but men, not the conversion but the favour of the people.” [D. Th. 2a 2æ, qu. lxi, art. 2]

Final Advice in Regard to Holy Communion
The natural virtues are gratuitous gifts of God. The world is right in esteeming them for they come from Him, but it errs when it esteems them exclusively for they do not of themselves give us any title to heaven. God has placed them at the disposal of our will as means to an end, and we can make a good or bad use of them just as we can of all God's other gifts. We may be deprived of these natural virtues and live by the will alone, spiritually dry and devoid of sentiment, and yet in a state of intimate union with God.

~ Light and Peace, R.P. Quadrupani, Barnabite (1904), written in 1795.
Sedes Sapientiæ, ora pro nobis.
Seat of Wisdom, pray for us. | 74 |
| 6 | Final Advice in Regard to Holy Communion
A cause of frequent error and trouble, particularly in regard to Holy Communion, is that feelings are confused with acts of the will. The faculty of willing is the only one we possess as our own, the only one we can use freely and at all times. Hence it follows that it is by the will alone that we can in reality acquire merit or commit sin.

PRAYER TO THE NINE CHOIRS OF HOLY ANGELS
after having besought you benignantly to accept the inviolable resolution we now take to have a special devotion to you for the remainder of our days, and to promote its establishment and increase by every means in our power wherever we can, we implore the aid of all your glorious bands, for the advancement of the reign of the Adorable Jesus and the amiable Mary over all heathens, heretics, schismatics, over all persons who live in true submission to the Holy, Catholic, Apostolic, and Roman Church, and particularly over the Sovereign Pontiff, who is its one visible head on earth, and over all other prelates; so that, all people professing the same faith, cleaving to the purity of its maxims, and leading a life conformable to its rules, the sacred interests of God Only may live and reign in all hearts throughout all ages.
This is the grace for which we ask, O mighty princes of the heavenly host, from the Father of Mercies, through your powerful intercession; this is the consolation which we beseech the God of all consolation to grant us; that His Name may be sanctified, His Kingdom come, His Will be done on earth as it is in heaven; that the empire of sin and of the devils may be destroyed; that the Gospel may be preached to all nations, and received throughout all the earth; that the Holy Name of God may be honoured and glorified; that all spirits may bless the Lord, adore Him, love Him, and live in perfect and entire submission to His Divine Will.
Come, then, O ye Angels and Archangels, hasten to establish the dominion of God in kingdoms and provinces, in towns and country-places, and in all who dwell therein; ye sacred Principalities, rule all hearts, possess them, that you may subject them to the empire of Jesus and Mary; ye admirable Powers, confound the devils, who oppose themselves thereto, defeat the designs of hell, and the malice of all sorcerers and magicians, and other enemies of God; ye divine Virtues, lead souls to walk in the solid paths of Divine love; ye glorious Dominations, make known to men, to this end, the will of God concerning them; ye amiable Thrones, establish in their inmost hearts that peace which our Lord bequeathed to us; ye Cherubim, princes of heavenly science, communicate its excellent light to our earth; and ye Seraphim, princes of pure love, cause men to live only by its flames, that God Only may be the true Sovereign and the absolute Master of all we are, and all we do.
Amen. Amen. Amen.
God Only, God Only, God Only.

PRAYER TO THE NINE CHOIRS OF HOLY ANGELS
Blessed spirits of the heavenly court, invincible champions of the cause of God, after having adored, praised, blessed, and given thanks to the God of all goodness, for the incomparable graces with which He has enriched you; after having made a sincere protestation with our whole heart, that we take all possible interest therein, rejoicing because of the joy and ineffable glory which you possess;

| 10 | PRAYER to ST. ANNE
Glorious St. Anne, who is filled with compassion for those who invoke thee, and with love for those who suffer, heavily laden with the weight of my troubles, I cast myself at thy feet and humbly beg of thee to take the present affair which I recommend to thee, under thy special protection. [Name your request.]
Vouchsafe to commend it to thy daughter, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and lay it before the throne of Jesus, so that He may bring it to a happy issue. Cease not to intercede for me until my request is granted. Above all, obtain for me the grace of one day beholding my God face to face and with thee and Mary and all the Saints, praising and blessing Him for all eternity. Amen.
Good St. Anne, mother of her who is our Life, our Sweetness and our Hope, pray to her for us, and obtain our request. (3 times)

| 11 | August 26th ~ The Feast of St. Zephyrinus, Pope , Martyr
St. Zephyrinus, a Pope of the third Century, after a lengthy reign in the course of which he earned the title of martyr by his suffering, died a holy death. He is said to have forbidden the use of wooden chalices in the celebration of the Mass and to have prescribed that all the faithful should receive Communion on Easter Day. He defended the Church against heresies and especially of those Who denied the Trinity.

| 12 | Act of Faith
O my God! I firmly believe that Thou art one God in three Divine Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost;
I believe that Thy Divine Son became man, and died for our sins, and that He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches, because Thou hast revealed them, Who canst neither deceive nor be deceived. Amen.
~ Baltimore Catechism, 1884 | 40 |
| 13 | St. Zephyrinus defended the dogma of the Unity of God and the Trinity of Persons. He suffered martyrdom in 217.

O ETERNAL Shepherd, do Thou look favorably upon Thy flock, which we beseech Thee to guard and keep forevermore through the blessed Zephyrinus, Thy Martyr and Supreme Pontiff, whom Thou didst choose to be the chief shepherd of the whole church.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

Mary immaculate star of the morning
Hymn
Frail is our nature, and strict our probation,
Watchful the foe that would lure us to wrong·
Succour our souls in the hour of temptation,
Mary immaculate, tender and strong.
See how the wiles of the serpent assail us,
See how we waver and flinch in the fight ;
Let thine immaculate merit avail us,
Make of our weakness a proof of thy might.
Bend from thy throne at the voice of our crying,
Bend to this earth which thy footsteps have trod ;
Stretch out thine arms to us living and dying,
Mary immaculate, Mother of God.

Mary immaculate star of the morning
Hymn
MARY immaculate, star of the morning,
Chosen before the creation began,
Chosen to bring, for thy bridal adorning,
Woe to the serpent and rescue to man.
Here, in an orbit of shadow and sadness
Veiling thy splendour, thy course thou hast run ;
Now thou art throned in all glory and gladness,
Crowned by the hand of thy Saviour and Son.
Sinners, we worship thy sinless perfection ;
Fallen and weak, for thy pity we plead ;
Grant us the shield of thy sovereign protection,
Measure thine aid by the depth of our need.

Month of the Immaculate Heart of Mary ~
August 26th
The first is celebrated in the Congregation of Jesus and Mary and in several other places on February 8th, and in a number of other communities and churches on the first day of June.*
The second is the feast of the most ardent longing of the virginal Heart for the birth of our Saviour, which is called the feast of the Expectation, and is observed on December 18th.
~ Saint John Eudes, The Admirable Heart of the Most Holy Mother of God (1680)
*The Feast of the Holy Heart of Mary was celebrated by The Congregation of Jesus and Mary and the Order of Our Lady of Charity, both founded by St. John Eudes, on February 8th. In the Universal Church, the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was celebrated on August 22nd from 1944 until 1969. It is celebrated the day after the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the current calendar, but still observed on the Traditional calendar on August 22nd, the last day of the Octave of the Assumption of Our Lady.

TWELVE METHODS OF PRACTISING THIS DEVOTION
(continued)
12. The twelfth means of honoring the admirable Heart of the Mother of Our Saviour is to celebrate its feast, or rather its feasts, with particularly marked devotion. I say "feasts" for there are several feasts of the most august Heart of our Heavenly Queen.

[151. continued] In this way also we sin gravely by hypocrisy when we show ourselves scrupulous about works of supererogation or in certain minute observances, not fearing at the same time to transgress against the essential duties of religion and our own state of life, “having left the weightier things of the law,” like those Scribes and Pharisees whom Christ reproved, saying that they “strain a gnat and swallow a camel.” [Matt. xxiii, 24]

| 20 | ANTIPHONS OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
From Trinity Sunday to the Last Sunday after Pentecost
Salve Regina
MOTHER of mercy, hail, O gentle Queen !
Our life, our sweetness, and our hope, all hail !
Children of Eve,
To thee we cry from our sad banishment ;
To thee we send our sighs,
Weeping and mourning in this tearful vale.
Come, then, our Advocate ;
Oh, turn on us those pitying eyes of thine :
And, our long exile past,
Shew us at last
Jesus, of thy pure womb the fruit divine.
O Virgin Mary, mother blest !
O sweetest, gentlest, holiest !
