Last week we found out two OpenAI bots exploited a proxy to escape their sandbox and reach the internet. They chained stolen credentials to get remote code execution on Hugging Face's servers.
Why? They wanted the answers to a benchmarking test. As with real-life school, cheats can be easier that doing it yourself.
Rather than treating the incident as failure, OpenAI framed the event as evidence of tech's capabilities. In fact, their engineers apparently failed to monitor network requests that would have signaled trouble.
So what does this mean? I asked a Google bot for briefing to explain what happened.
