I miss the honky tonks, Dairy Queens, and 7-Elevens. And as things fell apart, nobody paid much attention.

| 3 | Pixel Philosophy: Complexity and Collapse
Joseph Tainter's classic The Collapse of Complex Societies asking a familiar question: why do powerful, sophisticated civilizations suddenly fall apart? What brought Rome, the Mayans, or the Hittites down?
Tainter says the usual answers don't hold up: resource depletion, catastrophe, invasion or internal revolt alone. None of them explain the pattern across cultures that had nothing else in common.
His thesis is colder and more interesting: societies build complexity (bureaucracy, hierarchy, specialization, and infrastructure) because complexity solves problems.
Every layer of administration or new institution was once some smart guy's answer to a real crisis.
Yet complexity comes with a cost.
Each new layer needs more resources to maintain than the last one did. That means paying more and more for less and less. At that point, simplification is rational.
For Tainter, collapse is a society cutting its losses. @DystopiaGOT | 209 |

| 9 | Why Fake News Wins:
1.) Bad actors and slop. You already know about this.
2.) Paywalls. Major outlets lock articles behind subscriptions, Most people only see the headline. And if you can't read the source, you can't check it.
3.) Screenshots prove nothing. Anyone can fake a convincing screenshot in under a minute.
4.) Articles change silently. News sites rewrite text and shift the framing of a story after publishing. There's no public edit history.
4.) The archives are under threat. Archivists and shadow libraries face constant copyright claims to block or remove content. @DystopiaGPT | 249 |

What nobody knows is what fallout comes when this whole market corrects. I suspect it will be a good time to but a PC or a phone. @DystopiaGPT | 251 |

I'll give Beato another link. While I'm not as enthralled by the classic rock canon as he is, he is a very good popularize and probably the best Boomer and normie among influencers. @DystopiaGPT | 260 |

| 15 | Pixel Philosophy: The Real American Heritage
We tell ourselves America was built on individual liberty to do as one pleases. We are wrong to do this.
Barry Shain's 1996 book The Myth of American Individualism raise questions about what we think we know. Based on 18th-century town records, he argues that the Founding generation prized the public good, self-denial, and church/family authority. The religious culture was traditional protestant and small-r republican.
Shain argues that later readings of American history interpreted the past based on later ideas. Democratic localism rooted in family and congregation didn't fit later ideas of radical individualism.
His attempt to recover a communitarian past that's been written out of the common narrative is the source for this video.

| 20 | What Clarence Thomas Said
Justice Thomas's lengthy dissent on birthright citizenship makes a sharp argument: the 14th Amendment was written for people with "no other homeland" and who "owed no allegiance to any foreign power."
So it wasn't meant to extend to children of temporary visitors or the undocumented.
Thomas concludes that the majority's broader reading isn't historically accurate. Therefore the 14th Amendment, written to deal with slavery, has been twisted to support for causes the Reconstruction Congress never intended.
