Autism itself is a common conversation topic, a psychiatric condition, and a struggle for many. At worst, the term is used as a smear against young men or anyone with specific interests or social hardship. Edith Sheffer's book Asperger’s Children (Norton, 2018). shows Asperger was a product of his time who was used to serve an unconscionable killing machine. Without ignoring Asperger's guilt (or defending the Nazis), we must consider that he was on to something. Social bonds, empathy, and connection to neighbors are essential to a healthy life.
