📍 Why in Focus?
PIB released a backgrounder highlighting how the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project is creating a standardised template for future bullet train corridors, promoting indigenous manufacturing and expanding India’s high-speed rail network.
📍 Key Highlights:
✅ MAHSR is India’s first bullet train corridor (508 km), using Japanese Shinkansen technology, with a design speed of 350 kmph and operational speed of 320 kmph. Travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will reduce to about 1 hour 58 minutes.
✅ A standardised engineering template (common designs for piers, viaducts, tracks, stations, signalling and electrification) is being developed to reduce costs, improve quality and accelerate future high-speed rail construction.
✅ Under Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, ICF and BEML are developing indigenous 280 kmph trainsets, while Indian industries are localising components, slab-track systems and specialised equipment.
✅ The corridor features J-Slab ballastless tracks, 2×25 kV traction system, 12 stations, 3 rolling stock depots, and over 20,000 OHE masts. The first section (Surat–Vapi) is expected to open in August 2027.
✅ India has identified 7 future High-Speed Rail Corridors (nearly 4,000 km, estimated investment ₹16 lakh crore) including Delhi–Varanasi, Chennai–Bengaluru, Mumbai–Pune and others to build a national high-speed rail network.

✅ 14490 is a 24×7 toll-free helpline linked to NCW’s existing helpline (7827170170) for women and girls above 18 years to register complaints and seek immediate assistance.
✅ The helpline provides Digital Complaint Registration, psychological counselling by trained professionals, and referrals to agencies such as Police, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), One Stop Centres (OSC), Protection Officers, and Hospitals.
✅ It supports Digital India by offering a citizen-centric platform for grievance redressal, counselling, and information on government support services, improving accessibility during emergencies.
✅ Complaint analysis helps identify trends in crimes against women, improve institutional responses, and supports sensitisation of police, judiciary, prosecutors, forensic experts, and administrative officials.
