Who is liable when an autonomous vehicle causes harm? How should lawyers use AI responsibly? And is the law keeping pace with changing social realities?   At Shaping the Future of Personal Injury Law: Technology, Risk and Reform, hear from experts tackling these questions and discover why personal injury practice remains one of the most relevant and rapidly evolving areas of law today.   Personal injury law is about far more than traffic accidents and insurance claims. From liability arising from autonomous vehicles to the responsible use of AI in legal practice and reforms affecting how compensation is awarded to families, practitioners are navigating some of the most complex legal challenges of our time.   For law students looking beyond traditional career paths, this seminar offers an opportunity to explore a practice area that is evolving alongside technology.   🗓 24 July 2026, 1.45pm - 6.00pm (Students are welcome to attend selected sessions if they are unable to stay for the full programme.) 📍 State Courts of Singapore 🎟 Complimentary for SAL Associate Student members - use promo code ASMPILAW2026 during checkout. ⋆⭒˚ 📣。⋆ [SMU MOOT COURT CLUB EXCO RECRUITMENT] ˙✧˖°📣⋆。 ˚ DEAR LAW STUDENTS, A gentle reminder that MCC recruitment will be open until 5th July 2026 at 2359H 🕰! As you consider whether to sign up or not, here are some answers to FAQs that students have asked in the past weeks. We hope some of these answers may aid in your decision: Q1. What is MCC’s mission? ˖✴︎˚🎯.✦ ݁˖ Broadly, MCC seeks to support active participation in student advocacy. These often involve (but are not limited) to various mooting competitions around the world 🌎. Other initiatives like workshops, talks, and panels are also within MCC’s prerogative. Q2. What are MCC’s plans for the upcoming year? ⋆⭒˚.⋆🗓 ⋆⭒˚.⋆ Externally, two key events are SMU’s hosting of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition 🚀🪐 and the International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot 🌊🧜. Both are prestigious international moots in which SMU actively participates. Internally, MCC hopes to increase the student population’s exposure to well-established practitioners, judges, and advocates 🎓. SMU’s strong record in mooting competitions over the years has garnered a wealth of support and alumni. MCC also aims to create more opportunities for the general student population to benefit from such support. Q3. What else can I expect from being part of MCC? ⊹.⋆🌟 ༘⋆。 Being in MCC grants immense exposure to a rich network of practitioners 🧑‍⚖️ both locally and globally. Beyond activities with the general student population, MCC members can also look forward to more closed settings with world-class advocates such as Senior Counsels and King’s Counsels. Planning of the international moots will also involve remuneration 🤑. Q4. Do I need to be a mooter to join? ⋆。°·🤨⋆˚꩜。 ❌ Nope! Regardless of whether you enjoy mooting or not, the benefits apply to all! Broadly speaking, advocacy simply means to support, recommend, or plead on behalf of a specific cause or individual. There is much to learn from talented advocates regardless of whether you wish to be in litigation 🏛️ or corporate 💼. The core skills of argument presentation, answering questions, reading your audience, and using strategic framing apply across both spheres regardless of whether you are presenting before a judge or client. Many of these exciting initiatives form part of MCC’s renewed vision 🔭. Having a group of like-minded, hungry, and inspired individuals can help carry them forward this academic year. If you wish, you can also sign up as a group if you believe it will contribute to a smooth working experience! You can sign up individually before indicating your working preferences during the interviews. As always, if there are any further questions, feel free to contact us at 📧 smulawmoots@sa.smu.edu.sg or via 📱Telegram: @danielsum. We are looking forward to your applications!
