Parshat Bereishit does not open with a law. It opens with a fact. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Rashi asks why. The Torah could have begun with the first commandment given to Israel. Instead it begins with creation, so that when the nations say we are thieves for holding this land, we answer: the earth belongs to the One who made it. He gave it to whom He chose. He gave the land of Israel to us. Rashi foresaw the events of today…. That is the first word of the Jewish story. Not victimhood. Ownership. A people, a covenant, and a land. Today we bring our grandson into that story. A brit milah is not a ceremony for the family photo. It is the sign cut into Jewish flesh from Abraham until now, the mark that says this child is not beginning from zero. He is the next link in a chain that outlived exile, persecution, and every empire that tried to finish us. And he is connected to God, the only thing in the universe that is perfect, not man. Bereishit is the parsha of beginnings. A world spoken into being. Light separated from darkness. Man placed in a land with a purpose. And here we are again, in our land, after two thousand years, welcoming another Jewish son. The nations are still arguing about the verse Rashi settled at the start. We are not arguing. We are doing what Jews do at a beginning. We make a brit. We give him a name. We plant him in the land his ancestors were promised, the land we came home to, the land his own children will inherit. This child does not enter history as a victim. He enters as a Jew in the land of Israel, heir to the first sentence ever spoken over this earth, and to the covenant that has never been broken. Three years since the Simchat Torah massacre. I did not post the videos. I did not share the footage. The world wants us as victims. History shows it likes dead, persecuted Jews. It hates victorious, strong Jews. Yes, we must remember the tragedies, the names, and the faces. We must never forget. And everything must be documented and accessible for us. But all the Holocaust movies and all the Holocaust museums did nothing to stop the despicable surge in Jew-hatred worldwide that followed the horrific images of that day. No. We must show humanity that we are victors. We are a people with the most miraculous story in human history. More than 2,000 years of exile and persecution, and we came home. Sovereign again in our ancestral homeland. In less than 80 years we turned it into one of the strongest countries on earth. The world did nothing to save the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust. The world did nothing to stop the Arab armies that came to massacre us in 1948. Only by the hand of God did we miraculously beat them back. Otherwise we would have been massacred, and the world would have gone on as if nothing had happened. It is time for Jews to internalize this. Images of us as victims do nothing for our cause as a nation. The evil of our jihadi enemies was exposed and livestreamed for the world to see on that day. The first massacre broadcast in real time, and the world still turned on us that same day, while the videos and images were still fresh. Not everyone, but enough to drive public pressure against us instead of against the evil jihadi monsters who slaughtered us. The answer is not pr campaigns to generate sympathy and understanding. The answer is a bigger, stronger Israel, with the jihadi population gone, and Jewish sovereignty restored to all areas they attacked us from. Instead, new Jewish communities resettled in every place we liberate from their evil, from: Gaza, Judea, Samaria, southern Lebanon, and southern Syria. We lead. We fulfill our God-given purpose as a light unto the nations by being strong, by being victorious, and by spreading God’s morality to the world from our indigenous, ancestral homeland. No. We are not victims. We are victors. That is the message I will keep prioritizing on giving to Jews and non-Jews around the world. That is the message humanity is starving to hear from us. IT’S A BOY!!! Just last month, a little princess entered our family and made us grandparents for the very first time. And now, a little prince has arrived! Our granddaughter already has a cousin almost exactly her age! Mazal tov to Ziv & Moria!!! And the timing could not be more meaningful. This little prince was born on Simchat Torah, literally bringing new life and new simcha into the world on a day dedicated to celebrating the eternal Torah of the Jewish people. That is what we Jews do. Our enemies have tried throughout history to destroy us. Yet generation after generation, we continue to bring more Jewish life into this world, celebrate our Torah and build our future, today, once again, in our God-given, indigenous, ancestral homeland. And there is another deeply emotional layer. Fifteen years ago, on this very day, Simchat Torah, my beloved grandfather, Saba Dave Hollander, left this world. Today, on his yahrzeit, another beautiful Jewish soul entered our family. The void Saba Dave left can never truly be filled. But how moving that on the very date we lost him, our family has been blessed with another precious baby, doubling the fourth generation of Abelow/Hollanders living back home in the Land of Israel (from one to two). My parents returned us home, and today our children here are having children. Four generations. Back home. Building. Growing. Continuing the modern Jewish story back home as sovereign.
