The Torah isn't speaking only about the spiritual life of individual Jews. It is speaking about the destiny of the Jewish nation living in its Land. And then come the frightening curses of the Tochachah. Here there is a fascinating insight that is especially powerful for our generation. The Ramban analyzes the Torah's two great passages of national curses, the first in Parshat Bechukotai, Vayikra 26, and the second here in Ki Tavo, Devarim 28. He argues that they correspond remarkably to the two great destructions and exiles of Jewish history. The curses of Bechukotai correspond to the destruction of the First Temple and Babylonian exile. The Ramban points to details such as idolatry, the desolation of the Sanctuary and the Land making up its neglected Sabbatical years, all features associated with the First Temple period. The curses of Ki Tavo, he explains, correspond to the destruction of the Second Temple and the long Roman exile. He points, among other things, to the Torah's description of a distant nation whose language Israel does not understand, the scattering of Jews “from one end of the earth to the other,” and Jews being carried away in ships. Think about that. Two Tochachot/curses. Two destructions. Two exiles. And there is no third Tochachah/curses in the Torah describing a third national destruction and exile. Rabbi Yoel Bin-Nun develops precisely this implication from the Ramban: after the ingathering of the exiles described in Nitzavim, the Torah can still foresee suffering and terrible challenges, but it does not present a third destruction and exile parallel to the first two. For those of us privileged to be living through the return of the Jewish people to our homeland after nearly 2,000 years, that is an incredibly comforting thought. We are home. Not visiting. Not temporarily passing through. Home. But we must be very careful about what lesson we take from that. Being home does not mean our actions no longer have consequences. The message of Ki Tavo is not: Don't worry. Everything will be fine regardless of what we do. Exactly the opposite. The entire parsha screams: Our choices matter. Our choices as individuals matter. Our choices as families matter. And our choices as a sovereign Jewish nation matter. That is one of the revolutionary truths of the Torah that modern Western thinking sometimes makes us uncomfortable acknowledging. There is a God. There are consequences. There is blessing and there is curse. There is right and there is wrong. There is faithfulness to our mission and there is abandonment of our mission. And all of it is connected to the Land. That is why the parsha begins with entering the Land, continues with remembering our history in the Land, describes the blessings of national life in the Land, and warns about the consequences of abandoning our covenant in the Land. Because Eretz Yisrael isn't an accessory to Jewish identity. It is woven into Jewish identity itself. Our generation is living the words of Ki Tavo. Think about the generation we are privileged to live in. For thousands of years Jews ended Pesach with “Next year in Jerusalem.” They prayed toward Jerusalem. They cried over Jerusalem. They married remembering Jerusalem. They buried their dead with earth from Eretz Yisrael. Generations dreamed about something that we sometimes treat as ordinary. And now? Many of us are privileged to live here. We wake up here. Our children speak Hebrew. We walk the hills where Avraham walked. We drive into Jerusalem. Jewish farmers once again cultivate the soil. Jewish soldiers once again defend Jewish families. Torah is being learned across the Land. And millions of Jews have returned from the four corners of the earth. ‎“וַיְבִאֵנוּ אֶל הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה” — “He brought us to this place.” Those aren't merely words describing something that happened thousands of years ago. They are our story right now. And that means our responsibility is enormous. We must teach our children that they are not random people living in a random country.

Ki Tavo: We Have Begun to Come Home. Now We Must Remember Who We Are There is something extraordinary about the opening words of Parshat Ki Tavo: ‎“וְהָיָה כִּי תָבוֹא אֶל הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר ה׳ אֱלֹקֶיךָ נֹתֵן לְךָ נַחֲלָה וִירִשְׁתָּהּ וְיָשַׁבְתָּ בָּהּ” “And it shall be, when you come into the Land that Hashem your God gives you as an inheritance, and you possess it and settle in it…”— Devarim 26:1 Every word matters. The Land of Israel is our נחלה — our inheritance. We are commanded not merely to visit it, admire it, pray toward it from thousands of miles away, or treat it as a safe haven when life becomes uncomfortable elsewhere. We are supposed to inherit it and live in it. That is fundamental to understanding who we are as Jews. Eretz Yisrael is not simply a nice place for Jews to live. It isn't merely a refuge from Jew-hating antisemitism. And Zionism was not begun by Herzl in Basel in 1897. Our connection to this Land comes directly from Hashem and goes back thousands of years. And Parshat Ki Tavo gives us an incredible lesson about how we are supposed to remember that. Even when saying “thank you,” we are supposed to tell our story. The Torah immediately introduces the mitzvah of Bikkurim. A Jewish farmer works his land. His trees finally produce fruit. He takes the first fruits, travels to Jerusalem, enters the Beit HaMikdash and gives them to the Kohen. You would expect him simply to say, “Thank You, Hashem.” But that's not what the Torah tells him to say. First he declares: ‎“הִגַּדְתִּי הַיּוֹם לַה׳ אֱלֹקֶיךָ כִּי בָאתִי אֶל הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע ה׳ לַאֲבֹתֵינוּ לָתֶת לָנוּ” “I declare today to Hashem your God that I have come to the Land that Hashem swore to our fathers to give us.” — Devarim 26:3 And then he tells our story. Our ancestors. Egypt. Our suffering. Our crying out to Hashem. Hashem taking us out with a strong hand. And then: ‎“וַיְבִאֵנוּ אֶל הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה וַיִּתֶּן לָנוּ אֶת הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת” “He brought us to this place, and He gave us this Land.” — Devarim 26:9 That is incredible. Even our gratitude must be rooted in our national story, with Israel at the center, because that is who we are. The Torah understands something about human beings: if we forget where we came from, eventually we forget who we are. And I believe this is one of the greatest challenges facing the Jewish people today. Too many Jewish children are growing up without knowing their own story. They know about universal values. They know about social justice. They may know about the Holocaust. They might know something about Israel's founding in 1948. But do they know Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov? Do they know that Hashem promised this Land to our ancestors? Do they know that virtually all of the Jewish holidays are inherently connected to the land of Israel? Do they understand that Egypt, the Exodus, Mount Sinai, Jerusalem and Eretz Yisrael are not disconnected episodes but one continuous story, and that they themselves are the next chapter? If we don't teach our children our story, somebody else will teach them another story. And then we shouldn't be surprised when Jewish children grow up believing that they are foreigners in their own ancestral homeland. Ki Tavo says: Tell them the story. Again and again and again. Even when bringing a basket of fruit, tell the story. Because Jewish identity without Jewish memory cannot survive. And Jewish memory is inseparable from Eretz Yisrael. Then come the blessings and the curses… Ki Tavo takes a dramatic turn. The Torah describes extraordinary national blessings if we live according to our covenant with Hashem: ‎“בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה בָּעִיר וּבָרוּךְ אַתָּה בַּשָּׂדֶה” “Blessed shall you be in the city and blessed shall you be in the field.” — Devarim 28:3 And then: ‎“יִתֵּן ה׳ אֶת אֹיְבֶיךָ הַקָּמִים עָלֶיךָ נִגָּפִים לְפָנֶיךָ” “Hashem will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you.” — Devarim 28:7 Notice what the Torah is talking about. Agriculture. Economy. Families. National prosperity. Enemies. War. Sovereignty.

Why did Israel begin as such a secular state? History matters. Secular Zionists built the institutions of modern Israel while many religious Jews remained deeply divided over Zionism. The public interest in the case with the Military Advocate General is obvious. We owe our soldiers the truth. We owe the Jewish people an accounting of who tried to destroy Israel’s name in the world from the inside. Tomer-Yerushalmi and all those in the military/legal deep state apparatus who took part in this must face the full severity of the law. But here is why they are so desperate to silence it. If she is investigated properly and tried properly, she will almost certainly have to reveal what she knows about the subversive conduct of her colleagues in the General Staff and at the top of the legal system. That is why the system is fighting so hard to bury the affair and bury her with it. This caused tremendous damage to Israel. It smeared our fighters. It fed the global machine that already wants Jews to look like the villains. And it highlights something I have been saying for years: some of the most senior positions in the security and intelligence services and in the legal system have been working overtime against the Jewish nation and the State of Israel, not by accident, but out of their ideology against Netanyahu and the proudly Jewish public he represents, and by covering for the people they want to protect. Why do you think that is? Because these deep state elites still believe they are the real government, and the leaders elected by the public are an inconvenience. Because they fear a Jewish public that woke up after October 7 and no longer accepts being lectured by people who leaked against our own soldiers while Hamas was still holding our children. That is why these elections matter so much. If the political left and Eizenkot return to power, it will be a disaster. The same worldview that gave land and guns to our jihadi enemy, that wanted a deal with Hamas before the job was done in Gaza, that treated Jewish victory as the danger and “ending the war” as the goal, will be back in charge of our lives. The more they fight to shut this scandal down, the clearer the public interest becomes: investigate it to the end. Expose it to the end. No more cover-ups. No more blood libels from inside our own deep state institutions. Our soldiers deserve better. The nation deserves the truth. And Israel deserves leaders who want to win, and not cover for each other. This is also why judicial reform is not a slogan. It is a necessity. A legal system that can smear IDF soldiers, leak a blood libel, and then block every real investigation will never hold itself accountable. That reform will never happen if Eizenkot or the left win the elections. As I always say, we are in a wake-up process. Not every Jew/Israeli yet understands the deep state, the power of senior government officials who work against the will of the people, and the role of the mainstream media. Many still lack the political understanding to see how and when we are being manipulated by mainstream media. But every day the deep state exposes itself. And when it is no longer “deep,” the people of Israel will once again have a real voice in the direction of our miraculous country. Strengthen your faith. The IDF Chief of Staff just decided to give 1 million NIS to a senior IDF official who deserves to be in jail for the rest of her life. I have been writing about this from the moment it broke. The former Military Advocate General, Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, admitted leaking to the press a video blood libel against IDF soldiers, the Force 100 affair. That leak was not a clerical error, and there is no way that she was alone in having it edited, spliced and leaked to the media. The video was a weapon. It painted Jewish fighters as criminals in the middle of a war for our survival, handed our enemies a propaganda gift, and helped produce United Nations resolutions against Israel at the moment we needed the truth most. And the soldiers of Force 100? Their lives were destroyed. They were branded as rapists, fired from their jobs, divorced by their wives, and one of them took his own life. The Military Advocate General who did this belongs in prison, and even that would not be enough. Instead, the IDF Chief of Staff let her retire from the army with no punishment and a million-shekel package. This story is rotten at the very top. And what happened the second this story became public? Her legal colleagues in the justice system and the Supreme Court moved, not to expose the truth, but to stop a real investigation. Every serious effort to investigate the leaked video episode, that was edited and proved nothing, has been blocked, delayed, or smothered. That is not how a healthy country protects its soldiers. The legal system refraining from an investigation and a cushy financial package by the IDF Chief of staff. That is how a closed caste protects itself. Tomer-Yerushalmi sat exactly where those two systems meet: the top of the defense establishment and the top of the legal system. Two elites that too often act as if they are above the nation they claim to serve. The Orwellian name for them is “gatekeepers.” The reality is a class that lost its way and frequently works against the public interest in order to protect its own. She sat in a General Staff culture that undermined Netanyahu’s policy, never warned Netanyahu about the signs of a Hamas invasion the hours before, and pushed a hostage deal with Hamas at any price, surrendering to Hamas’s terms. They systematically briefed against the elected prime minister constantly during the war. They accused him of abandoning hostages, and “killing them”, for political reasons. They worked on two tracks: weaken Israeli public support for continuing the war, and invite international pressure through leaks. That is the context of the Force 100 blood libel. With high probability, which we will only know for certain if there is a real investigation, the smear was meant to serve that campaign: damage Israel internationally so the Biden administration had a legal reason to stop shipping weapons to Israel, to then force Netanyahu and the war cabinet into a surrender deal and stop the war. This is also why the war is still going on today. It is absolutely absurd. The political left, including Gadi Eizenkot running to replace Netanyahu as Prime Minister, was already talking, only months after October 7, about making a deal with Hamas and ending the war. The whole political left deep state camp spent the entire war trying to stop it before Israel had achieved anything decisive. Their preferred outcome was obvious: Hamas still in power in Gaza, Hezbollah still standing in Lebanon, Israel told to be “responsible,” and Jewish blood treated as a negotiating chip.l, so long as the hostages were saved. And today those same people blame Netanyahu and this government for not achieving “total victory” in Gaza? They are complete hypocrites. You cannot spend two years sabotaging the war from inside the security elite and the legal system, leaking against our own soldiers, pushing international pressure, demanding a deal at any price, and then turn around and accuse Netanyahu and the government of failing to finish the job you tried to prevent.

Then Barrack stepped into an issue that should be crystal clear under the administration he represents: the Golan Heights. President Trump formally recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights in 2019. Yet Barrack recently spoke of Israel as still “occupying” the Golan. After the uproar, including criticism from Republican Senator Rick Scott, Barrack clarified that he had been referring to the Golan's historical status and reaffirmed that Trump's recognition remains U.S. policy. One controversial comment can be a mistake. But eventually, a pattern is a pattern. And I'm hardly the only person seeing it. American foreign-policy experts have been warning about Barrack as well. Foundation for Defense of Democracies experts Sinan Ciddi and Jonathan Schanzer didn't mince words. They titled their analysis: “America's Ambassador to Turkey Is Undermining U.S. Interests.” Their conclusion should be plastered on the wall of every American embassy: “The job of the American ambassador to Turkey is not to make Ankara feel validated; it is to defend U.S. interests.” Former Senator Rick Santorum went even further, accusing Barrack of having “betrayed” the Kurds and Christians in Syria for Turkey and saying: “His behavior is a disgrace. He should be recalled.” Former National Security Advisor John Bolton criticized Barrack for publicly making excuses for Sharaa, arguing that it isn't an American ambassador's job to justify another government's actions. Conservative commentator Mark Levin has also attacked Barrack's approach, particularly after Barrack criticized Israeli military action taken to protect Syria's Druze. This isn't about Israel demanding that every American official agree with Jerusalem. America should pursue American interests. Israel should pursue Israeli interests. That's exactly the point. The concern is that Barrack has repeatedly appeared more interested in legitimizing Erdoğan's Turkey and Sharaa's Syria than confronting the dangers those governments and their Islamist partners pose to American allies and American interests. President Trump deserves enormous credit for transforming America's Middle East policy in ways previous administrations were afraid even to contemplate. Secretary of State Marco Rubio understands the ideological threat posed by jihad and the Muslim Brotherhood network. America has incredible allies in the region who are fighting the same jihadist forces threatening the free world. It therefore makes absolutely no sense to have such an influential American diplomat repeatedly sending signals that reward Erdoğan, pressure America's Kurdish partners, legitimize Sharaa and publicly attack Israel. And that is why I hope Laura Loomer's reporting is correct. But until the White House or State Department confirms a personnel change, we should distinguish between hope and fact. If Barrack really has been summoned to Washington because senior officials have finally had enough, then good. It's long overdue. Diplomacy isn't about making every foreign ruler happy. It isn't about legitimizing jihadis because they suddenly put on suits. And it certainly isn't about pressuring loyal allies while bending over backwards for governments and movements that have repeatedly worked against American interests. An American ambassador has one overriding responsibility: Advance the interests of the United States of America. Tom Barrack's own words highlight how he has not been doing that. Hopefully, President Trump and Secretary Rubio are now asking those questions as well. And hopefully, this reported news out of the State Department is true. America deserves diplomats who unapologetically put American interests first. And America's true allies deserve nothing less. We, the Jewish people in Israel, know that there is a Higher Power ultimately in charge.

Great News From Washington: Is Tom Barrack Finally on His Way Out? There may finally be some very good news coming out of Washington. According to Laura Loomer, senior figures inside the State Department want U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and Syria envoy Tom Barrack gone, and he has reportedly been called back to Washington for “consultations.” Israel Hayom reports Loomer citing a State Department source saying, “We want him gone so badly…” But there has still been no official announcement that Barrack has been fired. I sincerely hope it's true. And I don't say that because Tom Barrack has criticized Israel. I say it because Americans should look at Barrack's own words and ask a very simple question: Whose interests has this American diplomat been advancing? Because his record is astonishing. Start with Syria's Ahmed al-Sharaa—formerly Abu Mohammad al-Jolani This is a jihadi terrorist with a $10 million US bounty on his head, a man who led al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate before breaking with al-Qaeda and eventually taking power in Damascus. How did America's Syria envoy describe his relationship with this jihadi murderer? Barrack said: “I'm certain that our interests and his interests are exactly the same today.” Read that again. The American envoy didn't merely say that Washington sometimes has to deal pragmatically with unpleasant people. That's diplomacy. He declared that America's interests and Sharaa's interests were “exactly the same.” Barrack even described Sharaa's vision as “soft Islam, not hard Islam.” Meanwhile, when America's Kurdish allies, the very forces that fought and died alongside American soldiers against Jolani and his ISIS jihadis, wanted guarantees for their future, Barrack's language sounded very different. He said: “There's a big sentiment that because they were our partners, we owe them.” Then came the question: “What do we owe them?” His answer was that America did not owe them an independent government within Syria. And as the Kurds resisted surrendering their autonomy to Damascus, Barrack warned: “There is only one road and that road is to Damascus.” He told them to “speed” their negotiations. Think about the contrast. To a jihadi terrorist with a $10 million U.S. bounty on his head, now ruler in Damascus: Our interests are exactly the same. To the Kurds who helped America destroy ISIS: What do we owe them? That should disturb every American, regardless of what you think about Israel. Then there is Erdoğan… Barrack is America's ambassador to Turkey. His job is obviously to maintain productive relations with an important NATO member. But an ambassador represents America to Turkey—not Turkey to America. Yet Barrack said: “Turkey is not a country to be messed with.” He has pushed for Turkey's possible return to the F-35 program despite the enormous controversy created by Erdoğan's purchase of Russia's S-400 system. And perhaps most revealingly, Barrack declared that America should: “take a bold step and give Erdogan what he needs” What does Erdoğa supposedly need? “Legitimacy.” Why is an American ambassador viewing his job as giving legitimacy to Erdoğan? Erdoğan's Muslim Brotherhood government with the aim of recreating the Islamic caliphate around the world including the stated goal of the Foreign Minister to conquer Jerusalem, has provided Hamas leaders a home in Turkey. Turkey purchased the Russian S-400 system that resulted in its removal from the F-35 program. Yet Barrack has advocated bringing Turkey back toward the F-35 while repeatedly treating Erdoğan's regional ambitions with remarkable sympathy. And when Israel acted against what it viewed as a developing Turkish military threat in Syria, Barrack didn't simply disagree with Israel's intelligence assessment. He publicly floated the extraordinary suggestion that Netanyahu might have been trying to bait Turkey into a conflict for domestic political reasons. Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz strongly rejected that accusation and said Israel possessed intelligence supporting the threat assessment.

We withdrew from Gaza in 2005. October 7 was the final answer. We uprooted 21 Jewish communities. Hamas turned Gaza into a terror stronghold backed by Iran. Never again can Israel trade security for promises that disappear when terrorists attack. One day we won’t need to check jihadi cars... I still want Israel making agreements with every Arab and Muslim government willing to work with us. Take every opportunity. But immediately after the Abraham Accords were signed, I interviewed Middle East expert Dr. Mordechai Kedar and told me something in that interview that I will never forgot: “Every agreement with an Arab Muslim country is like sand in the wind.” The sands shift. Today's shared interest can disappear tomorrow. Iran itself was once Israel's strategic partner. Turkey was not long ago our regional ally, enjoying close military relations with Israel. Today, even the UAE can cooperate with Israel while joining other Muslim governments in condemning Israeli policies. So make agreements. Celebrate them. Benefit from them for as long as they advance Israel's interests. But never rely on them longterm or build the survival of the Jewish state upon them. Never surrender strategic territory because of them. Never sacrifice defensible borders because someone promises peace. And never confuse today's diplomatic alignment with permanent acceptance of Jewish sovereignty. The Jewish people did not return home after 2,000 years to place our survival once again in somebody else's hands. Agreements are valuable. Deterrence is indispensable. And another major mistake too many Israelis and Jews make: deterrence does not come from desperately proving to our enemies how badly we want peace. Deterrence comes when everyone in the neighborhood fears the consequences of attacking Israel—when they know that if they start a war against the Jewish people, Israel will fight decisively until they understand that attacking us was a catastrophic mistake they dare not repeat. That is how you prevent the next war. That is how you create real deterrence. And ultimately, that is how strength can create the conditions for a more durable peace. Iran Invited Into the Pact? This Is What Happens When Israel Doesn't Finish a War With Victory For years, Israelis have been told that one of our great strategic goals should be peace and normalization with Saudi Arabia. Just imagine it, we were told: Israel, Saudi Arabia and the moderate Sunni states standing together against their common enemy, Iran. And now look at where we are. Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan have created a new mutual-defense pact, and Iranian participation has reportedly been raised with the Islamic Republic of Iran, even though Iran’s foreign minister has said they have received no “formal” invitation. Think about the extraordinary strategic picture. The same Iranian regime that has literally attacked Saudi Arabia and other Sunni states, and has been attacking countries across the region, is now being discussed as a possible participant in a broader regional security arrangement involving Saudi Arabia. If not against Iran. Then who do you think this alliance is against? Meanwhile, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt and Indonesia just found something they could publicly unite around: Condemning Israel. Yes. Even the UAE that is part of the Abraham Accords. Jews and Israelis need to wake up. For too long, we have allowed ourselves to believe that another agreement, another normalization ceremony, another handshake with an Arab Muslim government will finally deliver permanent peace. We should pursue those agreements. We should benefit from them. But we cannot delude ourselves into believing that today's shared interests erase centuries-old religious, ideological and geopolitical forces—or guarantee tomorrow's alliances. And this is exactly what happens when Israel doesn't finish a war against a jihadist enemy with unmistakable victory. Israel has achieved extraordinary military successes in this war. We devastated Hamas's military capabilities. We crushed much of Hezbollah's leadership and infrastructure. We struck Iran itself and demonstrated capabilities that stunned the region. But military success is not the same thing as total victory. Victory means changing the calculation of everyone watching. Had Israel decisively destroyed Hamas’s ability to rule and wage war from Gaza, established lasting Israeli security control, permanently eliminated Hezbollah’s invasion threat from southern Lebanon, securing the strategic defensive areas Israel needs in southern Syria, applied Israeli sovereignty to all these liberated areas, removed the jihadi population, and restored Jewish communities there, and established one ironclad rule that every Iranian proxy attack means Iran itself pays a direct price, the strategic calculations of the Sunni states could look very different today. They wouldn't have to love Israel. They would have to respect Israel's power and dependability. Because this is the Middle East. Governments align with countries they believe can protect their interests and deter their enemies. If Saudi Arabia and the other Sunni governments believed Israel would decisively stop Iranian aggression, their incentive would be to deepen cooperation with Israel against Iran. But instead they see Iran surviving, rebuilding and continuing to threaten the region while Israel repeatedly stops short, so they hedge and reopen doors to Tehran. They build alternative alliances. And hostility toward Israel can once again bridge even the enormous Sunni-Shiite divide. That is the price of incomplete victory. This isn't about endless war. It is precisely the opposite. Only decisive victory creates lasting deterrence. When your enemies believe attacking you will cost them far more than they could possibly gain, they think twice before beginning the next war. And when neighboring governments understand that you are the strongest and most dependable power in the neighborhood, they have an incentive to work with you rather than against you. That brings us back to the Abraham Accords. I supported them.

October 7 destroyed the fantasy that territory automatically brings peace. Judea and Samaria overlooks Israel's population centers. A Hamas-style terror infrastructure on those strategic heights would put central Israel at enormous risk. We cannot gamble with Jewish lives again.
