In the presence of Mr. Alexis Lamek, French Ambassador to Ethiopia, our Board of Trustees elected Mr. Fasil Giorghis as the new President of the Alliance Ethio-Française (AEF) of Addis Ababa on September 18. Congratulations and a warm welcome to him! We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Amde Akelework and Ms. Teguest Yilma, who served in this role before him. A big thank you also goes to Mr. Jean-Marc Boutonnet-Tranier, Vice President, who served as interim president, as well as to all the board members of the AEF. The new leadership of the AEF is ready to tackle numerous projects, including the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the founding of Piassa’s centre, which will feature a special program of events throughout 2027.

Minalesh Tera, Military Tera, Dubai Tera. Wenber Tera.
Names passed from one person to another, attached to streets, trades, corners and meeting points. Some are remembered for what was sold there; others for the people who gathered around them. Together, they form a vocabulary of movement through the market.
The colors change. The languages change. The goods change. The crowd never quite moves the same way twice.
Yet all of it belongs to the same immense fabric.
Merkato is a place that reveals itself one Tera at a time.

The Association of Ethiopian Architects (AEA), in collaboration with the Ethiopian Insurance Corporation (EIC), is inviting Category I Consulting Architects (CA) and Consulting Architects & Engineers (CAE) who are AEA Firm Members to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the: EIC Eastern District 3B+G+17 Mixed Commercial Building Project – Architectural Design Competition.
The project is located in Kirkos Subcity, Wereda 08, Addis Ababa, and the EOI serves as the pre-qualification stage for the subsequent design competition.

| 16 |  Ethiopia Hotel, one of the country's oldest hospitality establishments and a landmark on Yohannes St., has begun to come down. Demolition is already underway at the conference hall at the rear. Crews are working in the parking area behind corrugated iron sheets, and the main building is slated to follow within days. Its remaining life is not expected to stretch beyond October this year. Is a short diagnostic handbook based on field observation in Addis Abeba.
The main idea is simple: Before redesigning an African city, we need to read what is already working, what is failing, who is coordinating daily life, and what the formal plan cannot see.
Too often, African cities are judged by what they lack.
Less often, they are studied through the systems people have already built to move, trade, wait, repair, adapt, and survive.
This handbook is not a final answer.
It is a field method.
A way to slow down before intervention.
A way to ask better questions before drawing new plans.
