Antoni Gaudí (1853-1926) died 100 years ago today at age 73, after spending >40 years on his 'magnum opus' La Sagrada Familia & completing only 1/4 of it. He designed using hanging weights & gravity #models, then inverted them to determine #arches & #columns. Inspired by #nature, he lived austerely, focused solely on the #basilica.
He died 3 days after being struck by a tram while walking around #Barcelona. During the incident his clothes were so tattered (his underwear held together with safety pins) that passersby mistook him for a homeless man hence delayed aid for almost an hr.
Though much remained unfinished, his plans endured. Today, the basilica stands 172.5 m tall, below #MontjuïcHill, honoring his belief that human creations shouldn't surpass God’s work.

The BUCABUMA Project (Building Capacity in Circular Natural Building Materials using Frugal Digital and Traditional Engineering Innovations) is a fully funded EU–Africa academic mobility programme advancing sustainable construction across Africa and Europe.
The programme brings together KNUST (Ghana), University of Nairobi (Kenya), Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa), and KIT (Germany) to strengthen skills in circular economy approaches, climate-resilient construction, and natural building materials such as bamboo, clay, and other locally available resources.
Through this scholarship, students and researchers gain access to international mobility, hands-on training, and collaborative research opportunities that combine traditional building knowledge with modern digital engineering tools.

#Exhibition documents #AddisAbeba’s fading neighborhoods through watercolor and acrylic.
An acrylic painting measuring 1.3 meters by 1.8 meters greets visitors at the entrance of the second gallery room inside the Taitu Culture and Education Center. The canvas assembles fragments of Addis Abeba’s disappearing #urbanmemory — market scenes, architectural details and #streetscapes that have either been demolished or erased by the city’s rapid transformation.
The works form part of “Wub Addis 2 – Dej-af,” an exhibition featuring 48 paintings by the artist Harun Sulaiman.
