Is there a less obvious way to say we have sold the Gospel out to pander to the worldly powers? (see above article.) How much concerted energy does it take to be this hypocritical? One is free to dislike Putin all day long, but to promote Zelensky as a "beacon of hope" totally ridiculous.

NEW YORK — The St. Nicholas National Shrine Board of Trustees has announced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be honored at the 2026 Beacon of Hope Dinner, scheduled for Sept. 26, 2026, at Casa Cipriani in New York City.
The black-tie event will feature cocktails, an award dinner, and an after-dinner reception, with organizers describing the evening as a gathering centered on faith, hope, resilience, and unity. The shrine’s board said Zelenskyy is “a most worthy recipient who illuminates the path forward in times of great challenge.” The event’s promotional materials stated, “History will be in the room."

☦️ The Kyiv Pechersk Lavra has almost a thousand-year history - it began its life in the distant year 1051, when Saint Anthony settled in a cave on the hills of our glorious Kyiv. Throughout its history, the Lavra has experienced a lot, including destruction, such as during the times of the anti-God government of the Soviet Union
The reserve created by the USSR mocked the relics of the saints, exposing them right on the street as proof of the worthlessness of the Christian faith. This same reserve ruined almost all the buildings and structures of the monastery, and they destroyed to ruin Assumption Cathedral brick by brick.
The USSR left, but the reserve remained. In the 90s, it was forced to give way to the Christians, the true owners of the Lavra.
The forces of Orthodox monks and believers of the UOC rebuilt the Lavra after transferring its entire ensemble to the Church. And they not only rebuilt it, but also increased its grandeur and beauty!
🔴 Everything that you see now with your own eyes is not the work of a modern reserve, of the OCU monks or believers. This all became possible thanks to God and the UOC.
In 2023, the authorities, in the form of the Ministry of Culture, the reserve, and the OCU decided to appropriate our labour. And we are forced out of the monastery!
They decided that only they have the right to pray and live on the territory of the once free, accessible to all Ukrainian believers and non-believers shrine. The head of the reserve, Maksym Ostapenko, directly threatens the UOC brethren with forcible eviction from the territory, because, in his words, they "hinder the influx of tourists." Although in reality, without the UOC, without its soul, the Lavra stands empty - mass pilgrimages have stopped.
The so-called OCU brethren (in fact, full-time employees of the Ministry of Culture) have done nothing for it in the three years of their life in the monastery. Instead, the buildings that the reserve took from our fathers and gave them for use have been brought to almost the same state in which the UOC received them after the collapse of the USSR.
Brothers. You are being misled. Not only because the OCU is a church, but also because it takes care of and protects the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, that the Lavra belongs to them and has always belonged to them.
Hundreds of monks want to be thrown out onto the street. Hundreds of seminarians have already been left without their seminary and academy. Hundreds of thousands of believers have been left without their spiritual home!
The brothers of Athos should know well what it is like when the authorities want to expel you from your home, where you have become a different person and found God.
Do not become accomplices in theft and seizure. Do not be followers of the traitor of our Lord. Do not let yourselves be deceived and led into grave sin.

KYIV — Ukrainian journalist Nikolai Moiseenko has alleged that U.S. officials sought to persuade several Orthodox Churches to recognize the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), including through outreach to hierarchs in Bulgaria, during the period surrounding the OCU's establishment.
Speaking in an interview with the channel "Our home is Bulgaria!" Moiseenko claimed that former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback were among the officials involved in encouraging Orthodox leaders to recognize the OCU. According to the journalist, the officials visited several countries in the region and met with church representatives as part of those efforts.
