Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, the sitting MCA for Ikanga/Kyatune Ward in Kitui County, was arrested on Friday, 23 October 2026, along Mfangano Street in Nairobi’s CBD over a series of alleged mobile phone thefts.
Detectives from Kamukunji Police Station acted on intelligence and used CCTV footage to link him to three separate phone theft incidents reported in August and September 2026. He is currently in custody undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment.
The arrest also revealed an outstanding warrant of arrest in a separate case. Musyoka is wanted in Criminal Case No. 112/303/2024 after failing to attend court following his release on bond by Makadara Law Courts, where he had earlier been charged with stealing.

| 3 |  National Assembly Passes Bill Scrapping Live-Streaming of Election Results:
The National Assembly on Thursday, 22 October 2026, passed the Elections (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2024, removing the legal requirement for the IEBC to livestream results as they are announced at polling stations.
Under the new framework, IEBC must still determine, declare and publish results immediately after polling closes. Results announced at individual polling stations remain final. Kenya has extradited Sancho Kibutu (also known as Njoroge Kibuto) to the United States to face sentencing for a fatal drunk-driving crash that occurred in California more than a decade ago.
Kibutu was convicted on 19 September 2013 by the Superior Court of California, County of Madera, of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He was driving along Golden State Boulevard when he crossed a double yellow line and collided with another vehicle. A 16-year-old passenger was killed, and the driver and two other occupants were injured.
He failed to appear for sentencing, and a bench warrant was issued on 28 October 2013. Kibutu fled the US and remained at large for 13 years, living undetected in Nairobi until his arrest on 9 September 2026 in the Runda area.

Olympic and world marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) after an out-of-competition sample tested positive for the banned substance EPO.
The 33-year-old Kenyan provided the sample in Kenya before her victory at the Sydney Marathon on 30 August 2026, where she won in 2:18:31. EPO is a performance-enhancing drug that boosts red blood cell production and improves endurance.
Jepchirchir is a highly decorated athlete. She won Olympic gold in the women’s marathon at the Tokyo Games in 2021, claimed the world title in Tokyo in 2025, and is a four-time World Marathon Majors winner.

| 8 | Critical PHP Flaws Put Kenyan Government and Business Websites at Risk:
Kenya’s State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy has issued an urgent cybersecurity advisory after two critical vulnerabilities were discovered in PHP, the programming language that powers about 70–80% of websites worldwide, including many .ke domains.
The flaws (rated 9.2 on the severity scale) can allow hackers to take control of a server without logging in, potentially leading to data theft, website defacement or disruption of online services. They affect systems used by government ministries, education platforms, telecoms and private businesses.
The vulnerabilities were uncovered with the help of AI tools and had gone undetected for years. Security updates were released on 21 October. The ministry has directed all government agencies to identify every system running PHP, prioritise internet-facing services, and apply the patches immediately. A quarry cave-in at Mutonga in Igoji, South Imenti, Meru County, yesterday morning left one person dead and several others feared trapped under rocks and debris.
The incident happened around 8:30am as workers were extracting stones. Rocks from about 50 metres above suddenly collapsed on them. One body was recovered from the rubble, while at least one other worker was pulled out with serious injuries and rushed to hospital. Another person escaped unhurt.

More than 5,000 teacher trainees under the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) programme have failed to meet the requirements for graduation.

Detectives have intercepted a cocaine consignment valued at approximately Sh2.19 million at the Malaba One-Stop Border Post in Busia County.
The drugs were discovered during routine passenger and luggage screening of a Simba Coach bus (registration KDG 093H) travelling from Kampala to Nairobi. Officers found an unattended parcel inside the bus that raised suspicion.
As the parcel was being examined, the driver and conductor fled the scene, abandoning the bus and its passengers. Preliminary tests by the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau confirmed the substance was cocaine. It was packaged in eight pellets weighing 547.99 grams, with an estimated street value of Sh2,191,960.
One suspect, the bus turn boy identified as Meshack Medalack, was arrested. Detectives are still hunting for the driver, known only as Karama, and the conductor, John Musimbi. The bus was detained at the border post as investigations continue. | 1 805 |
