"Bapu, why don't you just use this?"Gandhi smiled and replied that wasting even a small pencil was a form of violence. Every pencil represented someone's hard work, the resources of nature, and society's effort. Throwing it away before its full use was not just wasteful; it was disrespectful. Perhaps sustainability doesn't begin with billion-dollar climate policies. It begins with small habits that we practise every day. Simplicity is not about having less; it is about wasting less. Sometimes, the smallest pencil teaches the biggest lesson. Similarly in life your tiny efforts like Finishing work on time , Keeping surroundings clean , offering seats to specially abled ,and as small as offering a smile can lead to big changes in the world . As it is said

| 4 | Imagine suffering from polio at the age of 2. Your own mother cannot see the world, your father is a subsistence farmer, and you are married at the young age of 18.
You are beaten, stripped on the road over dowry, and assaulted again for giving birth to two daughters instead of a son.
Anybody would start blaming luck or become depressed.
But guess what? One woman said no.
She started training for shot put at the age of 34. At 40, she won a gold medal and became India's first-ever gold medallist in para-athletics at the Commonwealth Games.
This is what becomes possible when you refuse to surrender to your circumstances and stop making excuses.
Women like her scare our patriarchal society—a truly hypocritical society that gets deeply offended when someone chooses a life partner from another caste or religion, but stays silent when a woman is raped, murdered, or killed for dowry.
She has given a tight slap to all those people.
If you too have suffered at the hands of this brutal society, look at her, champ.
You can do it. It won't be easy, but then again, you were never made for easy things. | 2 586 |

| 8 | "Philosophical Origins of the Modern Animal Rights Movement"
In the early 1970s, a group of Oxford philosophers challenged the assumption that nonhuman animals have automatically inferior moral status and that using them for food is therefore permissible. Key publications—Animals, Men and Morals (1972) and Peter Singer’s Animal Liberation (1975)—brought the issue into applied ethics and inspired the modern animal rights movement, changing attitudes and practices in many countries. While many philosophers pushed for radical changes in how humans treat animals, others defended the status quo or limited reforms.
Peter Carruthers argued moral duties apply only to beings who can join a social contract, a position that risks excluding severely intellectually disabled humans and future generations.
Roger Scruton supported animal welfare and certain human uses of animals (e.g., foxhunting for habitat protection) but condemned factory farming for its cruel conditions.
Gandhi ji had once Said :-
The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
He was also against the use of Animals for experimentation :-
"I abhor [animal] experimentation with my whole soul. All the scientific discoveries stained with innocent blood I count as of no consequence." | 3 163 |

| 11 | Harekala Hajabba: The Fruit Seller Who Built a School
Sometimes, the biggest revolutions don't begin in Parliament or boardrooms. They begin in the heart of an ordinary person who refuses to accept an ordinary problem.
Harekala Hajabba was one such person.
Born into a poor family in a small village in Karnataka, Hajabba never had the opportunity to go to school. To earn a living, he spent his life selling oranges at a bus stand. He had neither wealth nor education nor influence. Yet, he possessed something far more powerful—a deep understanding of what it means to be deprived of education.
One day, a foreign tourist asked him the price of oranges in English. Hajabba could not understand the question or respond. For most people, it would have been an embarrassing moment soon forgotten. For Hajabba, it became a turning point. He realised that illiteracy doesn't just limit opportunities; it also takes away confidence and dignity.
Instead of blaming his circumstances, he asked a different question: "Can I ensure that the next generation doesn't suffer what I did?"
At that time, his village had no school. Children had to travel long distances for basic education, and many dropped out before completing their studies. Hajabba decided that his village needed a school—even if he had to build it himself.
From his meagre income as an orange seller, he began saving a small amount every day. Rupee by rupee, year after year, he accumulated funds while tirelessly approaching government officials to sanction a school. His dream was not built overnight; it was built through patience, sacrifice and unwavering determination.
His persistence finally paid off in 2000, when a government primary school was established in Harekala village. Over time, it expanded and provided quality education to hundreds of children, transforming the future of an entire community.
What makes his story even more remarkable is that success never changed him. Even after receiving the Padma Shri in 2020, Hajabba continued to live simply, reminding us that true service is driven by purpose, not recognition.
His life teaches us a profound lesson:
Real changemakers are not always the most powerful people; they are often ordinary individuals who refuse to remain indifferent.

| 14 | In 2019, arthritis robbed Soumita Basu of nearly 80% of her mobility, making simple tasks like dressing painful and hospital visits stressful due to unsuitable clothing. She discovered mainstream fashion ignored millions with arthritis, chronic pain, spinal injuries, disabilities, or age-related stiffness—hurting their independence and confidence.
Refusing to accept this, Soumita and her daughter Amita designed stylish, easy-to-wear clothes.
With Rs 21,000 and local tailors, they refined prototypes through many setbacks and launched Zyenika in 2020—an adaptive clothing brand that helps people dress independently with comfort and dignity.

| 18 | Solipsism — The Philosophical Opposite of Empathy
Here's a strange thought experiment to start with: imagine the last person alive after some catastrophe. He might genuinely come to believe he's the only mind left in the universe. But that alone doesn't make him a solipsist — that's just a fact about his circumstances, not a philosophical position.
Real solipsism goes deeper than that. It's not the belief that you happen to be alone. It's the inability to even make sense of the idea that anyone else's experience could be real in the way yours is. Ask a true solipsist what "pain" means, and he can only ever mean his own pain — the word simply doesn't stretch to cover anyone else's.
And this phenomenon is increasing ,as we are living more and more in secluded spaces ,virtual words .We tend to believe we are the one having the most painful journey ,everyone else should listen to us.

| 20 | Values Lord Ram Stood For — Usable in Ethics and Essay
By Aditya Sir
Compassion beyond social barriers
When Ram entered the forest with Laxman, he met Shabari, an elderly woman who had waited years for his arrival. She offered him ber, tasting each one first to ensure sweetness before giving it to him. Ram accepted her joothe ber without hesitation and ate them with genuine joy. This moment shows that true compassion does not check the age, status, or social standing of the giver. It only checks the intent behind the offering. In ethics, this can be used to illustrate empathy and the rejection of discrimination based on social hierarchy.
Patience and composure under grief
When Sita was abducted by Ravan, Ram was devastated. Yet he did not let grief paralyse him into rash action. He gathered himself, built alliances with Hanuman and Sugreev, and prepared methodically before acting. This reflects emotional regulation and strategic patience — the ability to feel pain fully without letting it dictate poor decisions. Useful for essay themes on patience, resilience, or crisis leadership.
Trust and acceptance despite doubt
When Vibheeshan sought refuge with Ram, Sugreev and others suspected him of being a spy for Ravan. Ram, however, judged Vibheeshan on sincerity rather than suspicion, and welcomed him as an equal. This illustrates discernment paired with an open heart — the courage to trust based on character assessment rather than fear or prejudice. Relevant for ethics answers on trust, judgment, and inclusive leadership.
Humility despite privilege
Though born a prince of Ayodhya, Ram accepted forest exile without resentment and lived among sages and forest-dwellers as an equal, treating them with the same respect he would show his own court. This reflects humility as a lived practice, not just a stated value — someone secure in status does not need to assert it. Useful for essay themes on humility, equality, and leadership grounded in service rather than privilege.
Valuing every contribution, however small
During the building of the bridge to Lanka, a small squirrel carried pebbles to help, prompting laughter from some of the vanar sena. Ram stopped them and acknowledged the squirrel's effort with gratitude, gently stroking its back. This illustrates that true leadership recognises effort in proportion to intent, not scale — dignity of labour applies regardless of how small the contribution looks. Useful for essay themes on inclusiveness, dignity of labour, and recognising the marginalised.
Forgiveness as strength, not weakness
After defeating Ravan in battle, Ram did not gloat or dehumanise his fallen enemy. He acknowledged Ravan's wisdom and treated him with respect even in death. This shows that forgiveness and grace toward a defeated opponent is not weakness but the highest form of strength — the ability to separate the person's failings from their worth. Strong material for ethics questions on forgiveness, magnanimity in victory, and separating action from being.
