WHAT TO REVISE
Don't try to revise everything end-to-end β stick to high-value material only:
1. Ethics keywords & definitions
2. Examples β diverse, relevant, usable
3. Ethical issues, dilemmas, philosophers, and your short notes
4. Diagrams/flowcharts/frameworks you can reproduce in the exam
Start with Ethics revision, then move to GS-3.
WHILE ATTEMPTING THE PAPER
Manage time aggressively
Even if attempting case studies first, watch the clock.
- Ideally finish case studies in 80-85 minutes
- 80 min is the target if manageable
- Don't spend 1hr 40min on case studies and rush Section A
Use diagrams & flowcharts
In case studies, use diagrams/flowcharts/structured frameworks wherever relevant. Helps you save time, present more content, improve visibility, and use space effectively.
Vary your introductions
Don't start every case study the same way.
Options:
- A contemporary scenario related to the case
- A quotation from those given in the question
- A relevant ethical principle/value
Using a given quotation well can give your answer an edge.
Make conclusions value-rich
Don't leave conclusions plain. Where appropriate, use constitutional values, ethical schools, relevant quotations, and core ethical principles to strengthen them.
QUOTE-BASED QUESTIONS
Treat like a mini essay. Think in multiple dimensions: Individual β Family β Society β Economy β Politics β Administration β Global.
Always bring an antithesis/counter-perspective before concluding.
Simple intro framework: "The quote is true in its entirety as it highlights the values of _ and _." Then unpack the quote and explore its dimensions.
Important: Don't leave quote-based questions for the end β they need more thought and reflection, and attempting them under time pressure creates unnecessary difficulty.
ETHICS IS NOT KEYWORD BOMBARDMENT
Don't force keywords into every sentence β be organic. Use ethics terminology only where it naturally strengthens your argument.
Examples are the heart of Ethics, but keep them brief and precise β don't spend 3-5 lines on an example when 1-2 lines can establish the point.
Structure: Point β Keyword β Brief Example β Analysis. Far more effective than filling the answer with terminology.
FINAL REMINDERS
- Don't revise end-to-end
- Revise keywords + definitions + examples + dilemmas + philosophers + short notes + diagrams
- Manage time strictly
- Use flowcharts/diagrams in case studies
- Vary introductions and conclusions
- Treat quote-based questions as mini essays
