Starting to fill in these tedious little details

There's still so much left to do on this piece. Right now, I'm working on blending the color out and softening that vignette that I got a little too torch happy with in the beginning!

Finished! A pencil drawing of a model of the Triumphal Arch on the North-South Axis, c. 1940. Like the Volkshalle this too originated from a sketch dated from about 1925. This too was never built. In the final designs, this became 118 meters high and 170 meters wide, so the arch would have been about twice as high as the Victory Column. The basic form, as well as the portico below, can be seen as attempts to make the proportions of the enormous cube more comprehensible to the human observer. The triumphal arch was intended to stand at the northern end of the one-kilometer-long station forecourt and form the monumental prelude to the central section of the north-south axis. I'm finally back to work and oh how I've missed the smell of campfire that comes from burning images into wood! I've only just begun but this will be the 2nd piece in my "Against the Odds" art collection!

Bragi, God of Poetry, Music, and Eloquence Bragi is another of Óðinn’s sons, potentially born from the giantess Gunnloð, from whom Óðinn obtained the mead of inspiration. Like his father, Bragi is well-known for his prowess in poetics, even bearing the title of the First Smith of Poetry. He has runes on his tongue which aid him in this art. He is said to welcome the battle slain to Valhalla, and to entertain and inspire the Einherjar as the great bard of Asgard. Bragi is also the husband of Iðunn, the goddess who procures the golden apples which keep the gods young. Within this relationship may also be the Heathen idea of the immortality of one’s deeds, if they survive in story and song beyond one’s death. I carved this idol as a gift to my father for his birthday. Bragi holds a lyre in his hand. His tongue bears the Oss rune, associated with speech and the gods. He is wearing a pillbox hat and a cloak which is pinned with a brooch bearing a triple-horn motif associated with the sacred mead. Hail Bragi!

I made these really delicious sourdough discard pumpkin bars with a recipe I found from a questionable site that had an insane amount of ads so I printed it out and cut out the ads for anyone that wants it. Came out more like a cake than a bar, but is very good and toddler approved!

Four newly finished handwoven "Hearth Rugs" now available... These are made with heavy duty cotton warp and soft wool weft. All hand dyed colors and some of the wool is from our Shetland sheep flock at the old Schooner Creek Farm.

More end of summer appreciation pictures

My very first loaf of sourdough bread turned out so much better than I expected! I had to do my best to ignore all of the trad influencer types that over complicate everything. Bread making isn't as intimidating as it seems!

While I'm ready for autumn, remnants of summer remind me that despite the obstacles we may encounter, life still goes on and we have to find ways to make the best of it, for both ourselves and our loved ones. Even a butterfly with a broken wing will manage to fly from flower to flower, drinking the sweet nectar to continue its existence.

Loom Woven shawls also make lovely nursing covers! Love this lightweight summer shawl that can easily be used to nurse discreetly with the new wee one. A great veritable gift for an expectant mother. 🥰

This turned out really good

I visited the viking farm and museum at Avaldsnes in Norway today. Amongst other things (that I'll post here later) there is a replica of the Oseberg Wagon. A nice intricate carving with a ton of knotwork and detail. The more you look at it, the more you see.

I found some wonderful treasures today at an old bookstore I haven't been to in years.
