My very first loaf of sourdough bread turned out so much better than I expected! I had to do my best to ignore all of the trad influencer types that over complicate everything. Bread making isn't as intimidating as it seems!

While I'm ready for autumn, remnants of summer remind me that despite the obstacles we may encounter, life still goes on and we have to find ways to make the best of it, for both ourselves and our loved ones. Even a butterfly with a broken wing will manage to fly from flower to flower, drinking the sweet nectar to continue its existence.

This turned out really good

I visited the viking farm and museum at Avaldsnes in Norway today. Amongst other things (that I'll post here later) there is a replica of the Oseberg Wagon. A nice intricate carving with a ton of knotwork and detail. The more you look at it, the more you see.

I found some wonderful treasures today at an old bookstore I haven't been to in years.

If you have a picky toddler like me, I recommend trying homemade gummy snacks. It's a sweet treat but it's a good way to sneak in protein. Local honey is also good for allergies. 1/4 cup juice of choice (I use grape) 3 tbsp unflavored gelatin powder 1 tbsp lemon juice 1/4 cup of local honey Mix the juices and add the gelatin in a small pot. Let sit (bloom) for 5 min. Heat slowly and add in the honey stirring until well blended. Pour into molds and refrigerate for 3 hours before separating.

Summer must haves! Customer requested a non toxic Sunscreen and Critter Repellant. The Sunscreen is whipped Tallow with non-nano zinc oxide. My family has enjoyed many beach days without conventional sunscreens, and this one has never failed me. I just learned today that this is called "Man of the Earth" or "wild potato vine." It's native to North America and related to the morning glory (as you can see in the pattern of the flower). Apparently, the roots are edible when cooked and taste similar to sweet potato! (Should not be eaten raw though) I spotted them while walking today and decided to share my research.
