Relying on real time data, instead proxy indicators (like using small sample surveys, guess work, etc., now government is using real time GST network data, Public Financial Management System to track government expenditures, MCA database for corporate filings, etc.
Granular Price Tracking- using different rate of inflation for different things. Earlier government used a single food inflation rate for all the food items but now different rate of inflation for different items. Like, if the overall food inflation is 10%, then they use to increase the price of all food items by 10%, while inflation rate may be different for dal, roti, tomato, onion, etc.
Capturing the Gig and Unincorporated Economy: The new series systematically integrates regular annual data from the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) and the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE).
Segregating Multi-Activity Corporations: The government now employs advanced corporate filings, like the MGT-7/7A forms from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, for the new base year of 2022–23. These documents make the business say exactly where every rupee originates from. The Result: The statisticians now use a surgical method. They cut Bharat Enterprises in half: Rs. 600 crore goes to the Manufacturing GDP and Rs. 400 crore goes to the Services GDP. | 6 | As a teacher, I have observed a worrying change in recent years. Access to educational content has increased enormously, but the willingness to engage with that content patiently and consistently appears to be declining.
Many aspirants now spend more time searching for the “best strategy,” “shortest notes,” “most probable questions” or “one-shot lecture” than actually studying, revising and practising. Watching lectures at double speed, collecting hundreds of PDFs and continuously changing teachers or sources can create the illusion of preparation—but it cannot replace disciplined learning.
Competitive examinations such as UPSC do not test how much content a student has downloaded or how many strategy videos they have watched. They test conceptual understanding, retention, analytical ability, revision and performance under pressure. These abilities are developed only through sustained effort.
However, students alone should not be blamed. The education industry has also contributed to this problem by marketing shortcuts, instant success and unrealistic timelines. Social media rewards sensational claims more than honest discussions about the slow and repetitive nature of genuine preparation.
Seriousness does not mean studying for 15 hours every day or completely abandoning one’s personal life. It means:
• attending classes regularly;
• revising what has been studied;
• limiting sources;
• practising PYQs and answer writing;
• accepting feedback; and
• remaining consistent even when motivation is absent.
Talent may provide an initial advantage, but competitive examinations are ultimately cleared through discipline and consistency. No teacher, book, coaching institute or online platform can compensate for the effort that must come from the student.
Resources have never been more accessible. The real challenge today is no longer the availability of information—it is developing the patience, seriousness and discipline required to convert information into knowledge and knowledge into performance.
