🌿 99 Names of Allah & How to Use Them in Du’a 🌿
🌿 Name of Allah: Ash-Shakūr (الشَّكُور)
🕊️ Meaning:
Ash-Shakūr means The Most Appreciative. Allah appreciates every act of goodness we do and rewards us for it far beyond what we deserve. He also teaches us to recognize the blessings around us and not overlook the countless favors He has already given us.
🤲 When to call upon Him:
Call upon Ash-Shakūr when you feel distracted by what you don’t have, when you’re trying to become more grateful, or when you want Allah to help you appreciate His blessings in your life.
💭 How to use this name in du’a:
“Ya Shakūr, make me grateful for the blessings I have, help me recognize Your favors in my life, and do not let me become blind to the good You have given me.”
🌙 Reflection:
Sometimes we spend so much time thinking about what we’re waiting for that we forget to appreciate what is already in front of us. The health we have, the people who love us, the moments of peace, the ability to worship Allah, and the blessings we don’t even notice. Ash-Shakūr reminds us that gratitude changes the way we see our lives. When we recognize Allah’s blessings, even the small ones, our hearts become more content. And the beautiful thing is that Allah appreciates even our smallest acts of gratitude and rewards us for them.
📖 “If you are grateful, I will certainly give you more.” (Qur’an 14:7)

| 2 | A lot of you chose “Love of this world.” While excessive attachment to the dunya is certainly warned against in Islam, it isn’t the answer to this hadith.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The thing I fear most for you is minor shirk.” They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is minor shirk?” He replied, “Showing off (riyā’). For Allah will say on the Day of Resurrection: ‘Go to those for whom you used to show off in the world and see whether you find any reward with them.’”
Reference: Musnad Ahmad 23630 (authenticated as sahih by Al-Albani in Sahih al-Jami’ 1555)

🌿 Name of Allah: Al-Ghafūr (الْغَفُور)
🕊️ Meaning:
Al-Ghafūr means The All-Forgiving. Allah’s forgiveness is so vast that no sin is too great for Him to forgive when a person sincerely turns back to Him. No matter what you’ve done, His mercy is always greater.
🤲 When to call upon Him:
Call upon Al-Ghafūr when you’re seeking forgiveness, carrying the weight of past mistakes, or asking Allah to purify your heart and help you move forward.
💭 How to use this name in du’a:
“Ya Ghafūr, forgive my sins, conceal my faults, purify my heart, and never let me lose hope in Your mercy.”
🌙 Reflection:
Sometimes the hardest thing isn’t asking Allah for forgiveness—it’s believing you can actually be forgiven. Shayṭān wants us to think we’ve gone too far, that our mistakes define us, or that we’ll never change. But Al-Ghafūr reminds us that our past doesn’t have to decide our future. If Allah has given you another day, it’s another chance to turn back to Him. Don’t let guilt keep you away from the very One who can erase it.
📖 “And indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents, believes, does righteous deeds, and then remains guided.” (Qur’an 20:82)

| 9 | Backbiting is mentioning your brother or sister with something they would dislike, even if what you say is true.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Do you know what backbiting is?” They said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “It is to mention about your brother that which he dislikes.” It was asked, “What if what I say about him is true?” He said, “If what you say about him is true, you have backbitten him; and if it is not true, then you have slandered him.”

Al-ʿAẓīm reminds us that the only One who deserves complete awe is Allah. The more we recognize His greatness, the less this world takes over our hearts. When you truly know who Allah is, worship stops feeling like a routine and starts feeling like a privilege.

There are sins we regret, prayers we delayed, and moments when we fell short, yet Allah didn’t close the door on us. Instead, He gave us another day to make things right. That’s the beauty of Al-Ḥalīm. His forbearance isn’t permission to keep sinning—it’s an opportunity to return to Him. Every new day is a reminder that Allah hasn’t given up on you, so don’t give up on yourself. Keep turning back to Him, because the door of repentance remains open until our final breath.

Have you ever been judged by people who didn’t know the full story? It can be frustrating when others make assumptions or misunderstand your intentions. But Al-Khabīr reminds us that Allah sees what people can’t. He knows the effort you’re putting in, even when no one notices. He knows the reasons behind your tears, your patience, and the du’as you’ve been making in private. And He also knows the parts of our hearts that need work. That’s why we don’t just ask Allah to change our circumstances—we ask Him to change us too. There’s something comforting about knowing you never have to explain yourself to the One who already knows.

He cares for His servants in ways we could never plan for ourselves.

Call upon Al-Laṭīf when you’re feeling overwhelmed, when life isn’t going the way you hoped, or when you’re asking Allah to guide you gently through a difficult time.
💭 How to use this name in du’a:
“Ya Laṭīf, be gentle with me in all my affairs. Guide me through every difficulty with Your kindness, and let me recognize the blessings You place in my life, even the ones I don’t notice right away.”
🌙 Reflection:
Have you ever looked back at something you once thought was the worst thing that could happen, only to realize it led you somewhere better? Maybe it protected you from harm, brought you closer to Allah, or taught you something you desperately needed to learn. That’s one of the beautiful ways Al-Laṭīf works in our lives. His kindness isn’t always loud or immediate. Sometimes it’s hidden in the little things, quietly unfolding until one day you look back and realize He was taking care of you the whole time.
