Just hours before his successor is expected to be confirmed by the Senate, acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte on Tuesday announced what appear to be sweeping staff reductions at the embattled intelligence coordination hub.
“Good News! In addition to the Historic DECLASSIFICATIONS (Transparency!) by the President, we are, this morning, Executing a 5th and Near Final Round of TERMINATIONS, an approximately 30% Staff Reduction from Weeks Ago,” Pulte posted on his social media account Tuesday morning. “The Intelligence Community must protect the American people, NOT the political whims of the bloated and corrupt elite class.”
Pulte’s announcement of a 30 percent cut, depending on the baseline for when the dismissals started, could amount to the elimination of more than 300 staff at the ODNI, which is charged with coordinating intelligence collected by the other 17 members of the U.S. spy community and overseeing their budgets.
It comes the same day the Senate is expected to vote on his full-time replacement, current top Manhattan federal prosecutor Jay Clayton, as the next head of the ODNI.
....
The cuts appear to mark the latest effort by the Trump administration to slash the beleaguered intel hub, which lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have criticized in recent years as unnecessarily large. It would also defy warnings from Democrats last month, who said Pulte — the head of the government’s mortgage regulator — lacked the experience to make large-scale cuts without endangering U.S. national security.

The Trump administration has filed an emergency appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to reinstate a controversial executive order aimed at tightening mail-in voting procedures ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, setting up another major legal battle over federal authority in election administration.
The administration is asking the nation’s highest court to lift a lower court injunction that has prevented key provisions of President Donald Trump’s March executive order, titled “Ensuring Citizenship Verification and Integrity in Federal Elections,” from taking effect in 23 states and the District of Columbia.
Among its provisions, the executive order directs the Department of Homeland Security, working with the Social Security Administration, to create state-specific citizenship lists intended to verify voter eligibility. It also instructs the U.S. Postal Service to develop procedures governing the delivery of mail-in ballots, including limiting ballot distribution to voters appearing on state mail-in voting lists derived from those federal records.
The legal challenge stems from a lawsuit brought by 23 Democratic-led states and the District of Columbia, which argue that the Constitution grants authority over election administration primarily to the states and Congress—not the executive branch. In June, U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani blocked enforcement of significant portions of the order, concluding that the states were likely to succeed on the merits of their constitutional claims. Last week, the First U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals declined the administration’s request to lift that injunction.

| 5 | ⁉️ Who paid @LauraLoomer?
Ukrainian oligarch Akhmetov.
In 2024 he bought the most expensive real estate in human history - apartments in Monaco for $550,000,000.
In 2024, his company DTEK, promoted by Laura, received from U.S. and EU taxpayers a wartime AID $112,000,000 .
Thanks to US and EU taxpayers for helping buy the most expensive real estate in history.
He also keeps a $650,000,000 million yacht in Monaco.
In 2019, he bought the world’s most expensive house (per Bloomberg) for $350,000,000 - Freanch riviera villa les Cedres.
In 2011, he bought the world’s most expensive penthouse for $250,000,000 in London.
Akhmetov comes from a small village near Donetsk.
⁉️ How did he get his billions?
All ukrainian media shared it as in the 1990s he led a gang that murdered businessmen and politicians, seizing the best Soviet assets worth tens of billions.
He controlled 30% of Ukraine’s GDP through corruption and racketeering, then moved the money abroad.
DTEK is his energy company that received aid from European and American taxpayers - while Akhmetov himself makes billions and lives like a king.
Laura won’t tell you this. Akhmetov pays well.
....
Another proof.
Ukrainian oligarch Akhmetov bought @LauraLoomer.
They’re promoting Yatsenyuk - his long-time sponsored asset.
Several criminal corruption cases against him while he was prime minister.
Yatsenyuk and Akhmetov constantly held parties at Akhmetov’s house with lots of girls and alcohol.
When he stole first billion in dollars, he threw a private party in Kyiv - the entire Ukrainian political elite knows
this.
Yatsenyuk pushed ukrainians into an armed coup with the words: “A bullet to head, so a bullet to head.”
Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians died.
But Yatsenyuk doesn't fight.
Our country is destroyed.
Money in Ukraine has run out.
That’s why Akhmetov and Laura want to sell Yatsenyuk to the Americans.

| 7 | 🤖 AI Companies Are Buying Antique Books, Ingesting Their Contents to Train Models, and Then Destroying Them at Incredible Scale
Traditionally, books have been good for two things: reading, and looking nice on a shelf.
But AI companies are interested in neither.
To those building large language models, books are nothing more than fodder to be devoured en masse before being spit out like fishbone. Often, they’re happy to use digital books — or even better, pirated digital books, as Meta has been accused of doing, and as Anthropic was forced to pay a $1.5 billion settlement to authors for also doing.
But many companies, including Anthropic, have turned to ingesting physical books instead, which they can buy countless used copies of on the cheap. According to the settled lawsuit, Anthropic used a hydraulic powered cutting machine to neatly remove the pages from the books it procured from book resellers and then scanned them using industrial-grade imaging equipment. In other words, it was literally ripping off authors’ books to train its AI.
This process took advantage of a legal concept known as first-sale doctrine, which allows a buyer to do what they want with a purchase without the original copyright holder’s say-so. And since Anthropic was turning the original physical texts into digital ones — rather than redistributing them as new copies — a judge found this to be “transformative,” and therefore protected by fair use.
Now, as 404 Media reports, this practice has become prevalent enough that even well-established book sellers are looking to cash in on the AI boom. One called ISBNdb, which boasts the “world’s largest book database,” extolls that the “world’s best AI training data is setting on a shelf,” upholding these physical texts as uncorrupted by shoddy AI writing that’s already polluted so much of the internet (and indeed, newer books).
📝 Brad Carson: So AI labs are buying old books by the pallet, slicing them apart, scanning the pages, and pulping what's left. The orders are keyed to ISBNs and blind to scarcity. Nobody in the pipeline checks whether the book being shredded is one of the last copies on earth. Some of them probably are.
Here's the perverse part. A federal court blessed this precisely because the original is destroyed, as pointed out to me. One legal copy replaces another, so it's fair use. Whatever you think of that ruling or fair use, notice what it does. The law now rewards destruction and penalizes preservation.
So a lab that wants to scan a book and keep it, or donate it, or deposit the scan in a public archive, has weaker legal footing than a lab that shreds everything. We have built a legal machine that pays people to pulp books and punishes them for saving them.
The endangered books mostly aren't classics, but they're the only records. Long-tail items like local histories, indigenous language texts, defunct-field science, self-published memoirs of wars and migrations. When the last copy hits the pulper, that knowledge is just, well, disappeared.
The fix doesn't require reopening the copyright fight. Just screen bulk orders against census counts and pull any rare title. Deposit one scan of every destroyed book in a public archive. Maybe rebind truly unusual books. Congress should bless preservation without touching fair use. LLMs promise the democratization of knowledge. But their manufacture would seem to threaten in some ways, too, under our perverse legal regime.

| 11 | 📌 US President Donald Trump is hosting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House for separate meetings on Tuesday
📌 Both leaders are in Washington to attend a memorial service for Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who was a prominent supporter of Israel and Ukraine
📌 Both the Ukraine war and widening Middle East conflict are at critical junctures
📌 Zelenskiy said that anti-ballistic defense and strategic cooperation with the US were the 'number-one priority' for his meeting with Trump
📌 Trump and Netanyahu will discuss the conflict in Iran, as well as tensions between Israel and Lebanon, a White House official said
....
Later on Tuesday, Zelenskiy is expected to meet all 100 members of the U.S. Senate.
According to a Senate aide, the upper chamber of the U.S. Congress is also expected to begin voting on a bill to impose sanctions on Russia — legislation championed by their late colleague, Graham, a prominent supporter of Ukraine.
The bill had been pending for about a year before Graham's sudden death this month.
Zelenskiy's visit also comes amid controversy over stalled U.S. aid.
A letter sent to lawmakers from the Pentagon showed that the Trump administration has told Congress it will not finish spending $400 million in previously authorized aid to Ukraine until fiscal year 2029 — even as Kyiv runs critically low on the weapons it needs to fend off Russian missile attacks.
Democrats, along with some of Trump's fellow Republicans, have criticized the Pentagon for sitting on aid that members of both parties backed last year.

| 12 | Trump to Fox about Netanyahu's Pickaxe mountain PowerPoint presentation:
Well I don't need bibi to tell me that, bibi's telling me that because he wants me to stay involved-i mean I don't... necessary...
we have, the finest because of space force, we have the greatest cameras in the world focused on-we know exactly what's going on.
But uhhh, no I heard bibi announce that-I said why didn't you just tell it to me, why did you have to announce it to the world.
I know exactly what's going on at Pickaxe, it's not a big problem.
We'll have to take out Pickaxe if we don't make a deal-we'll take it out very easily.
....
For context: this facility was built at least 100 meters underneath the peak of a solid granite mountain called Kūh-e Kolang Gaz Lā, or Pickaxe, just south of the Natanz facility.
Construction began 2 years after Trump pulled out of the JCPOA and 9 years after the GBU-57 was developed.
They can't get to it.
....
Another factor is geology. Underground bases & facilities chosen for geography and geology:
Iran’s Underground Military Bases: “It’s the geology, stupid”
Financial Times:
“The Iranian missile cities the US could not destroy” caused a stir, but scholars of Iran knew that sites for underground bases were chosen for geography & geology.
➡️The geology of the Iranian Plateau is formidable.
Not being a geologist, all I can safely say (with help from Uncle Claude) is that formations like limestone and dolomite absorb and scatter blast energy.
The Iranian Plateau is “honeycombed with natural caves and cavities, layered with fractures, which breaks up and swallows shockwaves before they travel far.”
➡️Iranian geologists, engineers, and soldiers picked sites. Construction expanded after the “Axis of Evil” speech (29/01/2002).
➡️Iran had 24 years to prepare.
➡️Iranians studied the “American war of war”: the US military is a “one-trick pony”—air campaigns (Serbia, Iraq, Libya, Syria).
It solved the problem by developing formidable subterranean cities.
Historical note: Iranian civilization emerged millennia ago in an arid landscape.
Iranian civilization stands in contrast to those that developed along rivers: Indus, Nile, Euphrates, Tigris, Yellow River.
Iranians discovered subterranean aquifers and devised channels (qanat) to transport water many km to settlements (search: “kariz” or “qanat”).
The longest kariz is 80km (Zarch, Yazd). The deepest mother-well is 340m (Gunabad, Khurasan).
❗️The “moral of the story” is that Iranians know their forbidding environment and how to profit from it.

| 14 | President Trump's economic assault on Iran has drawn a fraction of the attention devoted to his bombing campaign, even as senior U.S. officials believe it may ultimately do more damage to the regime in Tehran.
U.S. intelligence and open-source media reports point to a deepening economic crisis inside Iran, including gasoline shortages in one of the world's most oil-rich countries.
"The Iranians want to stop being bombed and they want money," a senior administration official said. "But that's almost in reverse order. They really want the money first."
Driving the news: Trump, who paused U.S. strikes against Iran over the weekend after 13 consecutive days of attacks, said Monday that Tehran had requested a meeting to discuss a deal.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei denied that claim.
Both sides are talking to mediators, led by Oman, Qatar and Pakistan, who are seeking to convert the pause in fighting into a durable new ceasefire.
A major focus of the talks is a proposal that would give Iran and Oman a measure of authority — and potential revenue — in managing traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
The arrangement would draw elements from the cooperative framework used by Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore.
"Some of the Iranians want this. Others don't. That's part of the issue," the senior administration official said.
