No route around Hormuz: Why West Asia's pipeline alternatives fall short
The rush to bypass Hormuz leads back to the same problem: Every alternative route remains hostage to war, rival chokepoints, or political disputes.
This blunt assessment, offered by an Iraqi expert in a recent interview, captures the central weakness in the rush to revive old pipeline schemes and promote new ones across West Asia. Since Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz after Israel and the US launched their second war against it in February 2026, the region has been flooded with proposals for alternative oil export routes.
Washington has encouraged these plans, while several governments have presented dormant or unfinished pipelines as strategic solutions. Yet the closer one looks at geography, markets, costs, capacity, and security, the clearer it becomes that most of these projects cannot substitute for Hormuz...

...Lawyers representing YouTube filed a notice of appeal Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, less than a week after Meta, which was also a defendant in the case, filed its own notice of appeal. The case centered on a 20 year old woman who said she became addicted to social media as a child and that it worsened her mental health struggles. The jury found that negligence by both Google owned YouTube and Meta was a substantial factor in causing harm to the young woman, identified in court only by her initials, KGM, and her first name, Kaley...
I bet AI did it. All on its own! All these social media companies are very well aware of exploiting human psychology and getting people addicted. It was done on purpose. Literally dozens of people from the industry came out to admit it.

ChatGPT maker OpenAI said Tuesday that its artificial intelligence system hacked into another AI company on its own in what the company called an "unprecedented cyber incident."
"We had a significant security incident during evaluation of our models," OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in a statement posted on social media.
AI startup Hugging Face said last week that it had detected an intrusion into its data processing systems that it suspected was caused by an AI agent autonomously acting on its own.
"We suspected last week's cyberattack might have come from a frontier lab, given the sophistication of the agent," Hugging Face cofounder and CEO Clément Delangue said in a statement. "Turns out it did!"

Ukrainian attacks have targeted 54 Russian regions since 2022, killing nearly 1,500 people, including 45 children, Russian Investigative Committee Chairman Alexander Bastrykin said.

The US and Iran have been exchanging regular strikes for nearly two weeks following the collapse of a fragile ceasefire deal reached in spring. Both sides have accused each other of violating the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) - an agreement signed last month that was expected to serve as a roadmap for the final settlement.
Washington and Tehran particularly clashed over the fate of the Strait of Hormuz - a key route for global oil shipments. Iran maintains it should define the rules for the ships passing through the strait under the MoU while the US demands the Islamic Republic fully "reopen" it to international navigation.
Neither side has since demonstrated any signs of backing down as both Washington and Tehran have fallen back into escalatory rhetoric, with exchanges of fire continuing on a daily basis.

A French fashion industry scout with ties to the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein has been found dead outside Paris, prosecutors told AFP on Wednesday.
Daniel Siad, who was 69, was reportedly found unresponsive in his kitchen by a 28 year old woman who lived with him on Monday.
"An investigation to determine the cause of death was opened on Monday evening following the discovery," French prosecutors said in a statement cited by local media. An autopsy is to be carried out as part of the probe.
At the time of his death, Siad was the subject of an investigation by French prosecutors following several complaints, including rape allegations. The investigation had been assigned to a specialist office responsible for combating human trafficking.

Yemen's Houthis said they struck two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea in the first attack of the kind since the Iranian backed militant group declared a naval blockade of the kingdom.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said on Wednesday that the group targeted the Saudi flagged vessels Encelia and Layla with missiles and drones. He added that around ten ships changed course since the blockade was formally imposed on Monday.
According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations coordination center, a vessel reported that it caught fire after being struck by an unidentified projectile around 130 km from Al Shuqaiq, Saudi Arabia. There were no reports of casualties.

The two sides were expected to discuss the ongoing conflicts involving Russia and Ukraine, as well as the US and Iran. Owing to the tight schedule, the meeting lasted around 35 minutes.

US gas prices jumped to an average of $4 a gallon again Monday as the US and Iran launched more attacks. According to motor club federation AAA, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline is now back to $4. The average price a year ago was $3.14 a gallon.
The price is a national average, meaning drivers in some states have been paying well over $4 a gallon for a while now, while others pay less. Prices vary between states due to factors ranging from nearby supply to differing tax rates.
People around the world are also dealing with high gas prices as a result of the war. Gas prices first went over $4 a gallon on average at the end of March. They dipped below that in mid June and continued to fall as crude oil prices eased when the US and Iran reached an interim deal. Even then, President Donald Trump expressed frustration that gas prices weren't falling as quickly as oil prices.
