All of Iran’s main neighbors came; Iraq, Pakistan, Armenia, Turkmenistan. Only Erdogan and Aliyev did not. Very typical and expected.

🇺🇸 💥✈️🇮🇷 JULY 3, 1988 — THE WORST US TERRORIST ATTACK ON IRAN BEFORE THE 2025/2026 WAR 🔫38 years ago today, the USS Vincennes, patrolling in Iranian territorial waters during the Iran-Iraq War, shot down Iran Air Flight 655 with two SM-2 surface-to-air missiles. ✈️The Airbus A300 was on a scheduled, 28-minute hop from Bandar Abbas to Dubai, climbing on a normal commercial flight path, squawking a civilian transponder code. The US crew claimed they mistook it for an attacking F-14 Tomcat — a plane roughly a third the size, descending rather than climbing. 🕊️ All 290 people on board were killed. 66 of them children. ➡️Washington never issued a formal apology. In 1996, the US agreed to pay $61.8 million in compensation to victims' families "on a humanitarian basis" — without admitting legal liability — as part of a settlement at the International Court of Justice. ➡️The Vincennes' air warfare coordinator later received the Navy Commendation Medal for his performance during the cruise that included the shootdown, a detail that has never sat well in Tehran. 💬For Iranians, July 3rd sits alongside a long list of grievances predating the current war — MEK terror campaigns, the 1953 coup, decades of sanctions — as evidence of a consistent pattern of Imperial aggression rather than an isolated tragedy. 🔴 @DDGeopolitics | Socials | Donate | Advertising

❗ Russia has begun to massively use jet UAVs with Chinese engines that are faster than Ukrainian interceptor drones - The Telegraph The new Russian drones with Chinese turbojet engines can reach speeds of up to 500 km/h, compared to about 300-350 km/h for Ukrainian interceptor drones. Because of this, it is difficult for mobile air defense groups and interceptor UAVs to shoot them down, which is why Ukraine increasingly has to spend scarce missiles for air defense systems. Jet drones make up a smaller proportion of Russian attacks so far, but their number is growing rapidly. According to Ukrainian analysts, Moscow uses them to overload the Ukrainian air defense and open the way for ballistic and cruise missiles. @eurasianchoice

🇺🇸🚢 The US Coast Guard has ordered six icebreakers to "strengthen its position in the Arctic". The total value of the contracts is $3.3 billion. But the price is irrelevant, as dollars are printed depending on the availability of electricity to power the printing press, rather than the amount of gold in the country’s treasury. The first vessel is expected to be delivered in 2028, with the remainder due by 2031. Trump has previously emphasised on several occasions that the US lags significantly behind Russia in terms of its icebreaker fleet: it currently has only one operational icebreaker, the Polar Star, whilst Russia has more than 40. The US president has spoken of plans to expand the icebreaker fleet to at least 55 vessels. @eurasianchoice

Israel may have been planning to eliminate Iranian negotiators, in particular Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi and the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Bagher Ghalibaf, according to The New York Times, citing officials in the Trump administration. In light of this, Washington reportedly urged Tel Aviv not to take any steps that could derail the negotiations. It is also reported that Iran sought security guarantees from the US ahead of the talks in Islamabad, fearing covert operations by Israel. According to the NYT, on the return journey to Tehran, Iranian security services detected a threat of an attack on the aircraft carrying Galibaf, following which an emergency landing was made and the delegation returned by land. @eurasianchoice

China🇨🇳 increased its urban population from just 39 million people in 1949 to more than 670 million in its major cities today, adding the equivalent of over two US🇺🇸 populations to its urban centres in a single lifetime. The largest & fastest rate of urbanisation in history. Between 1949 and 2023, China’s urbanisation rate rose from 10.6% to 66.2%. China had just 129 cities in 1949. By the end of 2023, it had 694 cities, more than a fivefold increase. From 1978 to 2015, Shenzhen expanded its urban area at an average annual rate of 11%, one of the fastest sustained rates of urban growth ever recorded. In just over 35 years, China went from having virtually no expressways to building the world's largest expressway network, over 180,000 km, enough to circle the Earth more than four times. In just over two decades, China’s cities increased their annual patent output by approximately 8400%, one of the fastest technological expansions ever recorded by any country. China’s 21 megacities occupy only 7.5% of the country’s land area, yet they generate nearly one-third of national GDP and contain over one-fifth of the population. By 2020, those 21 megacities produced a combined US$4.83 trillion in GDP, roughly equivalent to the economy of a major developed nation, with every city connected by high-speed rail and metro networks.
