Our Shaykh Sulaymān Ar-Ruhaylī حفظه الله tweeted:
O seeker of knowledge, O Sunnī (whether male or female), know that there is nothing greater in status nor higher in rank in this world—along with what is hoped for you of immense reward in the Hereafter and elevation with Allah the Exalted, provided you are sincere to Allah—than being a guardian over the frontier of Tawḥīd, a guardian over the frontier of the Sunnah, a guardian over the evidence which you verify and give precedence to, and a guardian over beneficial knowledge which you learn and propagate; and [than being] one who acts upon righteous deeds, preserves rights, excels in dealing with people, and mutually advises to the truth, and mutually advises to patience.
So hold fast to this high honor, bite onto it with your molar teeth, never budge from it, and do not extend your eyes toward anything else, even if the beautifiers embellish it."

⚠️ The Delusion of Chains Without Uprightness: A Warning to the Seekers of Ḥadīth
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ Ālush-Shaykh حفظه الله said:
“As for merely acquiring these ijāzāt (certificates of transmission) without knowledge of their contents, this is neither sought after nor desirable.
For there can be found in some lands those who possess elevated ijāzāt and asānīd (chains of transmission), yet they are not from the people of istiqāmah to begin with.
For example, one might fall into major sins, destructive deeds, and unseemly matters. Some of them are not upon the methodology of Ahlul-Ḥadīth in their conduct. Others hold false beliefs, leaning towards extreme Ṣūfism, or follow innovative doctrines in creed, such as the Ashʿarī doctrine and others.
Some of those who affiliate themselves with the science of Ḥadīth have gone to extremes in this regard, to the point that they merely collect these narrations from here and there. This gathering of chains is not an objective in and of itself. If it is achieved, it is a good thing that the student of knowledge should desire; but if it can only be obtained through mere exhaustion, then it is not the true objective of seeking knowledge.”
Reference: Aṭ-Ṭarīq ilan-Nubūghil-ʿIlmī (الطريق إلى النبوغ العلمي), p. 36.
I say:
This is a true reality, as we have witnessed many individuals being promoted simply because they possess ijāzāt, have memorized texts of knowledge, and so on—without any consideration for their manhaj or their steadfastness upon the path of the Salaf.
When riwāyah (narration) is divorced from dirāyah (comprehension) and istiqāmah (uprightness), the ijāzah becomes nothing more than a piece of paper used for boasting. It reduces the noble science of Ḥadīth to a mere collection of stamps from “here and there.”
Promoting an individual who lacks uprightness and correct creed simply because he possesses a chain can actively harm the masses by giving legitimacy to people of innovation and misguidance.

هل نحتفل بمولد رسول الله ﷺ ؟
Do we celebrate the birthday of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?
(جودة منخفضة)
🚨 (O Preachers and Callers)
Indeed the callers to the innovation of celebrating the Prophet’s birthday have mobilized themselves and rallied around this innovation. So, show Allah goodness from yourselves by denouncing it and explaining that disagreement concerning it is not acceptable. Rather, it is darkness upon darkness: it begins with innovation, then progresses to major shirk, along with lustful sins such as reprehensible mixing [between men and women] and other such matters.
Warn people, and warn them again and again, so that Allah may guide through your efforts whomever He wills.
Warn even in communities that are generally safe from it—such as Saudi Arabia—as a means of prevention and protection, for prevention is better than cure.
Your families in Saudi Arabia see the world rushing toward it, so do not assume that they are immune from being influenced by it or becoming lenient toward it.
O preacher: Do not miss the opportunity tomorrow to warn against this innovation.
O Muslims: Increase the circulation of the lessons, clips, books, and articles of the people of the Sunnah that denounce it.
O Allah, grant all Muslims success in adhering to Tawhid and the Sunnah.
O Allah, make them steadfast upon them, increase them in guidance, and save them from innovations such as the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday.

1. The Claim of “Good Innovation” (Bidʿah Hasanah)
Some people argue that celebrating the Mawlid is a “good innovation.”
This claim is invalid because matters of religion must be referred back to the Qur’an and Sunnah. The Prophet ﷺ clearly stated that every innovation is misguidance.
If an act of worship was not legislated by Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, it is rejected.
2. The Claim That the Prophet ﷺ Attends the Gatherings
It is a serious error to believe that the Prophet ﷺ leaves his grave and physically attends Mawlid gatherings.
The Prophet ﷺ remains in the life of Barzakh until the Day of Resurrection, while his noble soul is in the highest ranks of Paradise.
Allah says:
“Then indeed, after that, you will surely die. Then indeed, on the Day of Resurrection, you will be resurrected.”
(Al-Mu’minun 23:15–16)
The Correct Way to Honor the Prophet ﷺ
The Prophet ﷺ is honored by following the guidance that Allah legislated, not by introducing innovations.
Innovated Practices (To Be Avoided)
Organizing annual birthday celebrations.
Gathering to perform exaggerated praises.
Supplicating to the Prophet ﷺ for help.
Legislated Practices (To Be Followed)
Following his Sunnah and obeying his commands.
Loving him and giving precedence to his guidance.
Sending abundant blessings and peace upon him.
Directing all worship and supplication to Allah alone.
Sending Blessings Upon the Prophet ﷺ
Allah says:
“Indeed, Allah sends blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels do so as well. O you who believe, send blessings and peace upon him abundantly.”
(Al-Ahzab 33:56)
The Prophet ﷺ also said:
“Whoever sends one blessing upon me, Allah will send ten blessings upon him.”
This is legislated at all times and is especially emphasized:
In the final Tashahhud of every prayer.
After hearing the Adhan.
Throughout the day and night of Friday.
Whenever the Prophet ﷺ is mentioned.
Conclusion
It is obligatory upon every Muslim to beware of innovations and newly introduced practices in the religion. The path of safety lies in adhering to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ upon the understanding of the righteous predecessors.
We ask Allah to grant us and all Muslims beneficial knowledge, steadfastness upon the truth, and protection from innovations and misguidance.
May Allah send His peace and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and all of his Companions.

﷽
Summary of the Ruling on Celebrating the Prophet’s Birthday (Mawlid) and Other Anniversaries
By His Eminence, Shaykh Imam ʿAbdul-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn Bāz (رحمه الله)
All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, his Companions, and those who follow his guidance.
The Question and the General Ruling
Questions have frequently been raised regarding the ruling on celebrating the birthday of the Prophet ﷺ, standing during such celebrations, offering greetings to him on those occasions, and other related practices.
The answer is clear:
It is not permissible to celebrate the birthday of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, nor the birthday of anyone else. Such celebrations are from the newly introduced innovations (Bidʿah) in the religion.
This is because neither the Prophet ﷺ, nor his Rightly Guided Caliphs, nor his Companions, nor the righteous followers from the best generations practised it. They were the most knowledgeable of the Sunnah, the most complete in their love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the most diligent in following his legislation.
Evidence from the Sunnah
The prohibition of these celebrations is established by authentic narrations warning against introducing new matters into the religion:
“Whoever introduces into this matter of ours (Islam) that which is not from it, it will be rejected.”
(Agreed upon)
And his statement ﷺ:
“I urge you to adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs after me. Hold fast to it and cling to it with your molar teeth. Beware of newly invented matters, for every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance.”
Likewise, in the Friday sermon, he ﷺ would say:
“To proceed: Indeed, the best speech is the Book of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad ﷺ. The worst of affairs are newly invented matters, and every innovation is misguidance.”
(Narrated by Imam Muslim in his Ṣaḥīḥ)
Evidence from the Qur’an
Allah commanded obedience to His Messenger ﷺ and warned against opposing him:
“And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you from, refrain from it.” (Al-Hashr 59:7)
“So let those beware who oppose his command, lest a trial befall them or a painful punishment afflict them.” (An-Nur 24:63)
“There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent example for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often.” (Al-Ahzab 33:21)
“And the first forerunners among the Muhajirun and the Ansar and those who followed them in righteousness—Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him.” (At-Tawbah 9:100)
And Allah, the Most High, said:
“This day I have perfected for you your religion, completed My favor upon you, and approved for you Islam as your religion.”
(Al-Ma’idah 5:3)
The Dangers of Establishing the Mawlid
Introducing such celebrations carries several serious dangers:
1. Implying the Religion Is Incomplete
Celebrating the Mawlid suggests that Allah did not perfect this religion for the Ummah, or that the Messenger ﷺ failed to convey something that later generations supposedly discovered and introduced.
2. Opening the Door to Other Evils
Many of these gatherings involve prohibited matters such as:
Free mixing between men and women.
The use of musical instruments and singing.
Other unlawful practices.
3. Falling into Major Shirk
The gravest danger is that many Mawlid gatherings lead to exaggeration regarding the Prophet ﷺ, including:
Calling upon him instead of Allah.
Seeking relief from him during hardships.
Requesting his aid and assistance.
Believing he possesses knowledge of the unseen.
These are acts of worship that belong solely to Allah.
The Prophet ﷺ warned against exaggeration concerning him, saying:
“Do not exaggerate in praising me as the Christians exaggerated in praising the son of Mary. I am only a servant, so say: the servant of Allah and His Messenger.”
(Narrated by Al-Bukhari)

If a student of knowledge becomes so occupied with teaching that it takes precedence over learning, and he begins to think that he benefits more from what he teaches others than from what he receives from scholars, then he would do well to re-examine his intention.
For the blessing of knowledge lies in continuing to receive it from its people. The blessing of knowledge is not sustained by giving alone, but by continually receiving, keeping the company of scholars, and maintaining the state of a student—no matter how much a person has learned—as long as he is still able to meet and learn from his teachers and from those who are more knowledgeable and senior than he is.
Saʿīd ibn Jubayr said:
“A man remains a scholar so long as he continues to learn. But when he stops learning and thinks that he has become self-sufficient and that what he already possesses is enough for him, then he is at his most ignorant."

“They embarrassed him, so he sought knowledge!”
Ibn Ḥazm — may Allah have mercy on him — (d. 456 AH) attended a funeral. He entered the mosque and sat down before praying. Someone said to him, “You haven’t prayed the prayer of greeting the mosque [ṣalātut-taḥiyyah].” So he got up and prayed it.
Then he attended another funeral. This time, he began praying, but someone said to him, “Sit down; this is not a time for prayer.” It was after ʿAṣr. He felt embarrassed by the situation, so he said, “Show me the home of the Faqīh (jurist).”
He then became serious and persistent in seeking knowledge, until he eventually became what he became [i.e., one of the great scholars].

Repost from Shaykh Sālih Ālush-Shaykh English Benefits.
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ Ālush-Shaykh — may Allah preserve him — said:
“The writings of Shaykhul-Islām [Ibn Taymiyyah] — may Allah have mercy on him — concerning creed are varied. The way to understand his words is therefore to master the concise works:
Al-Wāsiṭiyyah
Al-Ḥamawiyyah
Al-Tadmuriyyah
These three works are important for understanding the writings of Shaykhul-Islām, understanding his theological position and methodology, and understanding how he formulates and presents issues.
Therefore, for a student of knowledge to understand Shaykhul-Islām’s words in his longer works, his Fatāwā, and his lengthy answers, he must thoroughly master these three concise works.
This is why the scholars would teach students these three concise works before reading the longer works with them.”
