| 11 | 📖 A SINCERE ADVICE: HOW TO REPENT FROM MAWLID
The season has passed. The festivities are done, the food has been eaten, the music has faded, and the gatherings have dispersed. What was perceived as a celebration is over, but the reality remains: the deeds have been recorded, and the innovation has been written.
تفنى اللذاذة ممن نال صفوتها * من الحرام ويبقى الإثم والعار
تبقى عواقب سوء في مغبتها * لا خير في لذة من بعدها النار
The pleasure fades from the one who attained its peak from the unlawful, while the sin and shame remain.
Evil consequences remain in its aftermath; there is no good in a pleasure after which is the Fire.
However, Ahlus-Sunnah differ from the extreme groups. We firmly warn against religious innovations (Bid’ah), yet we never make people despair of Allah's mercy. He is Ar-Rahman, the All-Merciful.
The Prophet (ﷺ) gave us immense hope when he said:
“Indeed, Allah extends His Hand during the night so that the sinners of the day may repent, and He extends His Hand during the day so that the sinners of the night may repent, until the sun rises from the west.”
(Sahih Muslim)
Truly, the door of repentance is open until the sun rises from the west.
If you fell into the innovation of Mawlid, here is sincere advice on how to return to the pure Sunnah, depending on your situation:
A PATH TO RECTIFICATION FOR EVERY INDIVIDUAL
For the Ignorant
If you participated out of a lack of knowledge, thinking it was a good deed, the door to clarity is open. Check the numerous, gentle clarifications provided by the scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah—may Allah bless their efforts.
Learn why the Prophet (ﷺ) and his Companions never celebrated this day. Remember the Hadith:
“Whoever introduces into this matter of ours that which is not of it, it will be rejected.”
(Al-Bukhari & Muslim)
Seek knowledge; it is your shield.
For the Blind-Follower
If you went along with the crowd, following cultural norms or family traditions, it is time to prioritize the Sunnah over society.
True love for the Prophet (ﷺ) is demonstrated through obedience, not innovation. As Allah says:
“Say, [O Muhammad], ‘If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins.’”
(Qur’an 3:31)
For the Knowledgeable
If you knew the truth of this matter but still participated—yielding to desires, social pressure, or worldly gain—fear Allah.
You know the gravity of opposing the Sunnah. Renew your sincerity, ask for forgiveness, and let your knowledge guide your actions, not your environment.
For the Caller and Promoter
This is the most dangerous position. If you called to this innovation through your speech, actions, organization, or social media posts, your repentance requires an extra step.
You must not only stop and regret the action, but you must also clarify and rectify.
Allah says regarding those who conceal the truth:
“Except for those who repent and correct themselves and make evident [what they concealed]. Those—I will accept their repentance.”
(Qur’an 2:160)
Delete those posts, inform your followers of your mistake, and use your platform to champion the Sunnah.
The Conditions of a Sincere Repentance
To ensure your Tawbah is accepted, simply fulfill its conditions:
- Cease the action immediately.
- Feel deep regret for falling into innovation.
- Have a firm resolve never to return to it.
- Make amends, especially if you promoted it to others.
May Allah forgive our shortcomings, fill our hearts with true love for the Prophet (ﷺ) through adherence to his Sunnah, and keep us steadfast upon the Haqq.

| 20 | CELEBRATING MAWLID WITHOUT KNOWING ITS HISTORY ⁉️
Every year, millions of Muslims around the world gather to celebrate the Mawlid (the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ). For many, it is seen as a profound expression of love for the Messenger of Allah. However, a critical question is often left unasked by those who participate: Where did this practice actually come from?
When we trace the historical roots of the Mawlid, we find a reality that surprises many. It is a practice completely disconnected from the Qur'an, the Sunnah, the Companions (Sahabah), and the earliest, best generations of Muslims.
If the Mawlid did not exist in the first three centuries of Islam, who invented it?
Historical consensus traces the origins of the Mawlid to the Fatimid (Ubaydi) dynasty in Egypt during the 4th century Hijri. The Fatimids were an Ismaili Shi'ite dynasty who established various political and religious festivals to consolidate their power and influence the masses. During their reign, they instituted not just one, but multiple birthday celebrations: the Prophet's, Ali's, Fatimah's, Al-Hasan's, Al-Husayn's, and the ruling caliph's birthday.
For nearly three hundred years, this practice remained largely isolated to the Fatimid state. It did not cross over into the Sunni world until the 7th century Hijri, when it was adopted and popularised by a ruler rather than by the scholars of Islam.
This historical timeline is a known fact among historians and scholars, as summarized by Al-Bin'ali (may Allah have mercy upon him):
"Everyone who has caught even a trace of knowledge knows that celebrating the Mawlid (birth of the Prophet ﷺ) originated in the seventh century, and the one who introduced it was King al-Muzaffar, the ruler of Irbil. He hosted massive banquets to the extent that it was said he would slaughter ten thousand sheep on the night of the Mawlid. He was preceded by the Fatimids in Egypt in the fourth century Hijri, just as they also instituted Ma'aatim (wailing/mourning gatherings) and built a shrine which they named the Tomb of Al-Husayn; this is a lie for which there is no sound basis whatsoever."
— Naqd Kalāmil-Muftareen (p. 66)
King al-Muzaffar Abu Sa'eed Kawkaboori established the practice in the region of Irbil (in modern-day Iraq) through sheer extravagance. The massive feasts, the slaughtering of tens of thousands of animals, and the festive atmosphere drew the common people in. Through these immense state-sponsored banquets, the Mawlid transitioned from a Fatimid political tool into a widespread cultural tradition, firmly taking root centuries after the golden generation of Islam had passed.
Loving the Prophet ﷺ is a fundamental condition of faith. However, true love in Islam is demonstrated through obedience and emulation, not through innovated annual festivals.
Allah says: "Say, [O Muhammad], 'If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins.'" (Surah Ali 'Imran 3:31).
For the Muslim seeking the truth, the path is clear: returning to the authentic Sunnah and the way of the Sahabah is far superior, and far more beloved to Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, than any innovated celebration.
