| 10 | 🔴 [How should we deal with reports narrated from the Salaf—from the Tābiʿūn and those who came after them—in which specific rewards are mentioned?]
📌 Imām Abū ʿUthmān Ismāʿīl Aṣ-Ṣābūnī (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
“I found in the book of Shaykh, the Imām, my grandfather Abū ʿAbdillāh Muḥammad ibn ʿAdī ibn Ḥamdawayh Aṣ-Ṣābūnī —may Allah have mercy on him—the following:
Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Ḥasan ibn Sufyān An-Naysābūrī informed us that Al-ʿAbbās ibn Ṣabīḥ narrated to them, saying: ʿAbdul-Jabbār ibn Muẓāhir narrated to us, saying: Maʿmar ibn Rāshid narrated to me, saying: I heard Ibn Shihāb Az-Zuhrī say
:
‘Teaching one Sunnah is better than two hundred years of worship.’
📌 Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn ʿAbdil-ʿAzīz Sindī, may Allah preserve him, said:
“Reports such as these from the Salaf—from the Tābiʿūn and those who came after them—are received by the student of knowledge as general beneficial information.
In general, this report encourages teaching the Sunnah and indicates that doing so carries a tremendous reward.
As for precision and exactness: matters of the unseen that relate to reward and punishment are matters in which revelation is the determining authority. Therefore, we are only required to believe what has come in the Book of Allah, in the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ, and in what has been transmitted from the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them. This is because what the Companions mention concerning such matters has the ruling of being attributed to the Prophet ﷺ (marfūʿ).
As for those who came after the Companions, such reports are beneficial insights and points of wisdom. The student of knowledge should not dwell on them excessively. Rather, they are narrated, and their general benefit is taken, focusing on the central meaning conveyed by the report without scrutinizing its exact wording.
In other words, we do not have evidence from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ establishing, truly, literally, and definitively, that teaching the Sunnah is better than two hundred years of worship. It is not one hundred years, nor three hundred years. Such a specific numerical designation requires evidence from revelation.
Nevertheless, the scholars transmit such statements, record them in their books, and do not dwell on them, because the intended purpose is to convey the benefit. It is as though the statement is saying: Teaching the Sunnah—especially in the later times—carries a tremendous reward.
Therefore, we should strive to teach the Sunnah in every small and great matter. Whenever you see someone opposing the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, guide him and teach him—even if the matter concerns food, even if it concerns drink, even if it concerns clothing. Whatever the matter may be, teach the Sunnah.
Let us teach the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Wherever we walk, and whatever gathering we sit in, the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ should be the foremost concern that we strive to teach to those around us.”

| 12 | SUMMARY OF THE SHEIKH'S ADVICE FOR THE ONE STRUGGLING WITH SINS
1. Persevere in repentance: Whenever you fall into the sin, repent again. Never despair of Allah’s mercy, and always think well of your Lord.
2. Struggle against yourself: Life is a struggle against the nafs and Shayṭān. Strive sincerely for Allah, remain firm, and discipline your desires, heart, and limbs.
3. Counter the sin with its opposite: Replace the sinful action with acts of obedience. Occupy the relevant limb with what is beneficial—for example, occupy the eyes with Qur’an and beneficial reading, the ears with Qur’an and knowledge, and the tongue with dhikr.
4. Use encouragement and warning (At-Targhīb wa’t-Tarhīb): Read books containing aḥādīth about Paradise, Hellfire, death, the grave, and matters that soften the heart, such as Kitāb ar-Riqāq from Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Riyāḍuṣ-Ṣāliḥīn.
5. Increase Qur’an recitation: Maintain a daily portion of Qur’an, and increase it if you already have one. The Qur’an is among the greatest means of softening and treating the heart.
6. Turn sincerely to Allah in supplication: Frequently and earnestly ask Allah to cure you from the sin. Seek refuge in Allah from Shayṭān and rely upon Him for protection.

| 13 | Advice for a Student of Knowledge Struggling with a Sin
🎙 Sheikh Sālih As-Sindi حفظه الله said:
Question: A student of knowledge is tested by a sin that is difficult for him to abandon. What do you advise him?
Answer:
Persevere in Repentance: No matter how many times you fall, stand back up and repent. Beware of being among those who think ill of Allah Almighty, and do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Rather, think well of your Lord. Repent to Allah whenever you fall, persist in repentance, and never lose hope.
Struggle Against Yourself: Life is a struggle, primarily against one’s own soul (nafs) and Satan. Your duty in this life is to strive. Trust that if you are truthful with Allah Almighty, He will be truthful with you. If you strive in His path, He will grant you victory over your enemy:
“And those who strive for Us — We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.”
So strive, be firm with yourself, wean your desires, and assert dominance over your heart and limbs. By Allah’s permission, you will reach your desired goal.
Counter the Sin with Its Opposite: Utilize the means of obedience to counteract the sin. For instance, if your affliction pertains to looking, occupy your sight with obedience—such as reading the Book of Allah, the aḥādīth of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and reflecting upon the heavens and the earth.
If you are tested with a sin of hearing, occupy your hearing with listening to the Qur’an, the aḥādīth of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and beneficial knowledge. If your sin is related to the tongue, busy it with the remembrance of Allah (dhikr), and so forth.
This is among the most beneficial remedies for distancing yourself from this sin. You will find that the sweetness of faith (īmān) and the pleasure of obedience are far greater than the pleasure of the sin. Try this, and you will see.
Strike Your Heart with Encouragement and Warning (At-Targhīb wa’t-Tarhīb): Obtain a comprehensive book detailing the aḥādīth regarding Paradise, Hellfire, death, the grave, and its torments. Read from the chapters concerning heart-softening traditions (Ar-Raqā’iq), such as Kitāb ar-Riqāq from Ṣaḥīḥ Al-Bukhārī, Riyāḍuṣ-Ṣāliḥīn, Al-Matjarur-Rābiḥ, and similar books that compile the aḥādīth of the Prophet ﷺ. Read the sections related to the Hereafter.
Increase Your Recitation of the Qur’an: This is one of the greatest means to soften the heart. You have only fallen into these sins due to hardness and sickness in your heart, and the ultimate cure is the Qur’an. Maintain a daily portion (wird) of reading and stick to it; if you already have one, increase it.
Turn Sincerely to Allah in Supplication: Supplicate frequently and earnestly that Allah cures you of this sin. Satan has only overpowered you due to your own shortcomings, and no one can save you from this devil except your Lord, Glorified and Exalted be He.
Seek refuge in your Lord and his Lord; He will protect you from him if you are truthful in your plea.
I ask Allah Almighty to grant you sincere repentance.

| 15 | 🔴 ALLĀH IS SEEN WITHOUT BEING ENCOMPASSED
الله يرى بلا إحاطة
🎙Sheikh Sālih As-Sindī حفظه الله said:
“Allah is seen without being encompassed by vision. Allah (Exalted and Majestic) is the Supreme, the Great, the All-Encompassing; Allah is greater than everything.
When you look at the sea, you cannot encompass it with your vision, right? You stand before the sea—do you stand before that and see it? Answer, O Jamā'ah!!
But does your sight encompass it, as you encompass this cup right now, for example? No, by Allah! Because it is vast, and our vision is too limited to encompass it. Allah is the Greatest.
So Allah (Exalted and Majestic) will be seen without vision encompassing Him, and that settles the matter.
But how can there be total submission and compliance from souls that harbor personal desires and whims?”

| 19 | 📖 The Most Noble Goal a Person Can Pursue in Life
🎙️ Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Sindī, may Allah preserve him, said:
“The noblest thing you can seek is knowledge. Because of this, many scholars have stated that knowledge is the best of deeds.
This is Sufyān Ath-Thawrī, may Allah have mercy on him, who said: ‘There is no deed better than seeking knowledge for the one whose intention is sincere.’ There is nothing better than seeking knowledge when one’s intention is sincere.
Similarly, Ash-Shāfiʿī said: ‘There is nothing, after the obligatory duties, better than seeking knowledge.’
Learning and teaching knowledge held a tremendous status among early scholars; nothing surpassed it.
This is Makḥūl, and this is al-Zuhrī, may Allah have mercy on both of them, who said: ‘Allah is not worshipped with anything better than understanding [the religion].’
And Ibn al-Mubārak, may Allah have mercy on him, said: ‘I do not know of anything after prophethood that is better than spreading knowledge.’
What is the reason? The immense need for it.
Imām Aḥmad, may Allah have mercy on him, said: ‘People’s need for knowledge is greater than their need for food and drink.’ He spoke the truth, may Allah have mercy on him.
Food and drink sustain the bodies, but knowledge gives life to the hearts and souls, and salvation relies upon the latter.
As for the bodies, we share many things with animals. Food, drink, sleep, marriage, and similar needs are common between humans and animals. Indeed, there may even be animals that have a greater share of some of these needs than humans.
However, the distinguishing quality with which Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has distinguished us from animals is the life of hearts and souls.
And knowledge is the means and the path.
So, if Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, makes the path of knowledge easy for you, then rejoice in this good. Know that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has made easy for you the very best kind of goodness.
‘Whomever Allah intends good for, He grants him understanding of the religion.’
