The U.S. Army has begun withdrawing its equipment from Iraq, specifically from the Kurdistan Region.

Footage shows a fire at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport following a drone strike by the Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Alliance for Survival. The strike comes one day after a drone attack on Debre Zeit Air Force Base (Harar Meda Air Base).

Ethiopian Air Force personnel were killed in a drone strike carried out by the Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Alliance for Survival against Debre Zeit Air Force Base (Harar Meda Air Base). Senior Warrant Officer Kassahun Lema, a helicopter technician, was among those killed in the strike. His funeral was held today.

A U.S.-made APKWS II laser-guided rocket that failed to detonate was recovered by Russian forces in completely intact condition. These munitions are used by Ukraine to engage Geran-type drones and, in some cases, cruise missiles.

Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) “Prymary” Special Unit carried out precision strikes on several high-value Russian assets, including: • A railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal; • 9 communications, electronic warfare (EW), electronic intelligence (ELINT), radar, and MESH relay towers; A Su-30SM multirole fighter (failed); • A 55Zh6U Nebo-U radar; • A command post of a P-18 Terek radar; • Two Kasta-2E radars; • An L-39 Albatros jet trainer/light attack aircraft; • A BK-10 high-speed assault boat; • A BK-16 high-speed transport and landing boat; • A Mangust high-speed patrol boat.

It’s worth noting that this is a new modification designated Geran-5 K5, with a modified fuselage and equipped with the Susanin optical trajectory correction system, which compares images of the underlying terrain against a preloaded terrain map. A similar correction system, Otblесk-U, is installed on Kh-101 cruise missiles. The jet-powered Geran-5 is increasingly evolving into a fully-fledged cruise missile.

Their smaller size and lower signature generally make them more difficult to detect and intercept than larger platforms such as the Inokhodets (Orion) or Forpost-R. They are also significantly cheaper to operate, allowing Russia to deploy them for strike assessment and battle-damage imagery without risking more expensive UAVs. In other words, a relatively inexpensive small UAV can provide the real-time imagery needed to assess a strike while reducing the cost and risk associated with using larger reconnaissance platforms.
