The report highlights three main issues: the use of military force to suppress protests, increasing restrictions on journalists and civil society members, and aggressive actions taken against anti-war advocates surrounding Palestine. Civicus assigns a rating to countries based on the state of their civil space. This rating ranges from "open" to "closed", with "narrowed" being one of the categories. According to Civicus, the US civil space has been rated as "narrowed". The group explains that the "narrowed" category is given to countries where individuals and civil society organizations can still exercise their rights to freedom of association, assembly, and expression, but where violations of these rights still occur.

“People can form associations to pursue a wide range of interests, but full enjoyment of this right is impeded by occasional harassment, arrest or assault of people deemed critical of those in power,” the rating description says, adding: “Protests are conducted peacefully, although authorities sometimes deny permission, citing security concerns, and excessive force, which may include tear gas and rubber bullets, is sometimes used against peaceful demonstrators.”

Stanley Black & Decker experienced challenges in the supply chain due to tariffs and a slower outdoor buying season. The company further reported that it will incur losses of approximately $800 million this year as a result of tariffs. According to Kramer, the results from these three companies suggest that some sectors of the economy may be weaker than many people thought, and he suggested that the Federal Reserve might need to lower interest rates.
