🇩🇿☄️Stunning meteor fireball over Algeria (Oct. 5)
This stunning bolide was spotted from Spain on October 5, at 6:51 local time (equivalent to 4:51 universal time). At the start of the video, the fireball has been sonified by for outreach purposes: its light was converted into sound by means of a new technique developed by Dr. Madiedo in the framework of the SMART survey.
It was brighter than the full Moon.
The fireball was observed by a wide number of casual eyewitnesses, who reported it on social networks.
The event was generated by a rock (a meteoroid) from a comet that hit the atmosphere at about 256,000 km/h.

| 2 | We are trapped in Cyclop's cave, but escape could be easy...
A Michigan nurse, one Tawanda Hall missed $900 on her property taxes.
The county took her $308,000 home, sold it and confiscated the entire $286,000 in profit.
The government took everything she owed, then everything she had: "They took my whole house, my whole family's livelihood." Journalist John Stossel pointed out to another case where a county seized a retiree's home over an $8 debt.
People shouldn't have to fight in court to stop the government from taking their home over eight dollars.

| 3 | Modern forensic methods reveal human sacrifice in ancient Egypt
Over 500 years before the building of the Great Pyramid in Egypt, First Dynasty kings were buried in a tomb surrounded by many burials of household officials and artisans — many of which seem to have taken place at the same time, a suspiciously high number of simultaneous deaths.
The original excavators thought that these individuals were the victims of retainer sacrifice, where people are killed after the death of a ruler to act as their attendants in the afterlife.
But they didn't find evidence of any wounds on the bones, leaving the cause of death in doubt.
Now a major re-examination of a sample of the remains, using modern forensic knowledge, has identified numerous instances of cranial trauma that were likely fatal.

| 4 | 🇺🇸The US doesn't have an oil problem - it has a refinery problem
One of the enduring weaknesses of the modern US economy is the lack of redundancy.
As long as most of the world is operating normally and there are no serious geopolitical disruptions, America's "just in time" system works fine.
But, throw a monkey-wrench into distribution, global exports, freight systems, shipping or elements of production and cracks quickly form in the armor.
This does not mean that the US economy can't adapt; the pandemic shutdowns were horrifically pointless but they did prove that the system has the ability to function despite deep deficiencies.

| 5 | The tyranny of one man's opinion
Thomas Cromwell was the Lord Chancellor of England for much of the reign of King Henry VIII. He engineered the convictions and executions of many whom Henry wanted out of the way, including his two predecessors in office — one of whom was St.
Thomas More — and even the king's second wife, Queen Anne.
When Cromwell's son Gregory, who became sickened as he watched his father devolving from counselor to monster, learned that an executioner for the queen had been sent for from France a week before her trial, he asked his father what the purpose of her trial was if the king had preordained the queen's guilt and prepaid the executioner.

| 6 | 🇵🇸Israeli occupation forces near completion of 'massive trench' to partition Gaza: Report
Israeli forces are occupying around 70 percent of Gaza while intensifying the siege and continuing the genocide that is entering its third year.
The Israeli military is expanding its blockade, occupation, and partitioning of Gaza by nearly "completing" the formation of a massive "earthen embankment" or trench across the strip, the Ynet news site reported on 5 October.
"Israeli forces are completing an anti-vehicle barrier consisting of a wide trench and an earthen embankment, while drilling into the ground at regular intervals to ensure no cross-border tunnels into Israel have been missed.

| 7 | 🇨🇳🇺🇸US squeezes China's jet parts supply as rare earth showdown escalates
If you want an indication that resource nationalism and Beijing's weaponization of critical material exports to gain leverage over the US in high-stakes trade negotiations are accelerating, a new report Thursday afternoon says the Trump administration is planning to slow shipments of commercial jet parts to China.
Reuters cites several people familiar with the Commerce Department's moves to slow export licensing and limit the quantities of jet parts approved for shipment to China's state-owned planemaker COMAC to prevent stockpiling.
Officials have also explored new licensing requirements covering aviation hydraulic fluid and rules that could make it easier to restrict landing gear and other components.
The report stated the slowdown has taken several forms.

| 8 | Macron laments the EU's nosedive like he's not one of the pilots
After another climbdown to Washington, Macron is blaming everyone but himself as France's economy, energy security and authority unravel.
So, big bad US President Donald Trump just successfully strong-armed French President Emmanuel Macron and the EU into dumping their precious 'rainy day' diesel from strategic reserves.
Why?
Because Trump, threatening a disastrous cutoff of diesel exports to Europe altogether, wanted to keep domestic gas prices looking perky ahead of next month's American midterms.

| 9 | DOE calls for transparency and tolerance - whiny teacher unions cry foul
The decline of higher education into an ideological echo chamber has been widely discussed on this and other sites.
Polls show record lows in the public trust in our universities and colleges as revenues decline and closures increase.
Secretary of Education Linda McMahon responded to this meltdown with a common-sense call for greater transparency and tolerance.
The response from teacher unions has been nothing short of hysteria, led by Randi Weingarten at the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and Todd Wolfson at the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) — two of the most polarizing and political figures in teaching.

| 11 | One of Earth's largest continents is splitting open: A 3,000-kilometer scar reveals a new ocean forming faster than expected
Deep below the surface, the crust is narrowing like stretched taffy, and scientists say the process has intensified.
The crust beneath Kenya's Lake Turkana is roughly 13 kilometers, or 8 miles, thick.
That is not a typo.
Typical continental crust can extend 35 kilometers or more, yet along the axis of the Turkana Rift, roughly two-thirds of that thickness is gone.

| 12 | 🇮🇷🇮🇱BEST OF THE WEB: Pre-emptive nuclear war: The role of Israel in triggering an attack on Iran
The text below is Chapter III of Michel Chossudovsky's book entitled: The Globalization of War.
America's Long War against Humanity, Global Research Publishers, Montreal, 2015.
This chapter provides a historical perspective of US war plans directed against Iran, including the use of a preemptive nuclear attack, using low yield, "more usable" tactical nuclear weapons.
This analysis is of particular relevance to the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran. *** While one can conceptualize the loss of life and destruction resulting from present-day wars including Iraq and Afghanistan, it is impossible to fully comprehend the devastation which might result from a Third World War, using "new technologies" and advanced weapons, until it occurs and becomes a reality.

| 13 | OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says the world 'should accept some bad things' from AI
Sam Altman says some harm from the technology is worth accepting, after Bill Gates warned misuse could lead to "a billion deaths" The world should accept some "bad things" including hacks, scams, and misuse in exchange for the benefits of artificial intelligence and keeping the technology broadly accessible, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has said.
In an interview with Politico published on Monday, Altman rejected the idea that preventing all harmful uses of AI would justify placing the technology under tighter control.
"The world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology and people having the agency," Altman said.

| 14 | WikiLeaks at 20: The leaks that shook the world
Founded by Julian Assange in 2006, the platform brought classified documents, covert operations and government secrets into public view Sunday marks 20 years since Australian journalist and activist Julian Assange founded WikiLeaks, the whistleblowing platform that would publish some of the most consequential leaks of the internet age, exposing classified US war records, CIA hacking tools, mass surveillance and other closely guarded government secrets.
Registered in 2006, the website provided a secure and anonymous channel for whistleblowers to submit material for publication.
Its early releases included operating procedures for the US detention camp at Guantanamo Bay, banking and corporate secrets, and internal documents from the Church of Scientology.
However, it was the scoops published in 2010 that made WikiLeaks a global phenomenon.

| 15 | 🇿🇼FLASHBACK: Remembering Zimbabwe's great alien invasion in September 1994
Tracking down one of the Ariel School experiencers took some doing, but eventually I connected with Sarah* in what she referred to as "a most stubborn old Rhodie [white Rhodesian] bar" in downtown Harare.
Of the more than 110 children and staff who had been at the school, which sits just outside the small agricultural centre of Ruwa, when the aliens landed in 1994, she thought she was probably the only one still in the country.

| 16 | People reached Badanj Cave in Bosnia 20,000 years ago, 5000 years earlier than previously thought
People were using Badanj Cave in Bosnia and Herzegovina around 20,000 years ago, roughly 5,000 years earlier than previous evidence had shown, according to a new study that reshapes the timeline of one of the eastern Adriatic's most important Paleolithic sites.
The new dates suggest that generations of hunter-gatherers returned to Badanj over a period stretching from about 20,000 to 12,000 years ago.
That span covers major environmental changes at the end of the last Ice Age and turns the site into an unusually long record of how people lived through a changing landscape.
A shelter above the Bregava River Badanj lies near the town of Stolac in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina.

| 17 | Federal judge rules warrantless Flock camera searches may violate 4th Amendment
An Oklahoma federal judge ruled Friday that warrantless searches using AI-powered surveillance camera data — such as what Flock Safety's hallmark technology collects — may violate the Fourth Amendment without adequate probable cause.
"Freedom from persistent, dragnet-style surveillance while in public is not a foreign concept in our society, and it is a reasonable expectation that society already accepts," U.S. District Judge Sara Hill wrote in her ruling.
Hill, an appointee of former President Biden, continued: "But it becomes constitutionally problematic when law enforcement can indiscriminately and passively catalog your whereabouts over an extended period of time and then use that information for any purpose whenever convenient."
