July 10 marks the 261st anniversary of the birth of Prince #PyotrBagration, a legendary Russian military commander of Georgian royal descent. Renowned for his fearless leadership, he stood alongside #MikhailKutuzov and #MichaelBarclayDeTolly as one of the key generals who spearheaded the defence of Russia during Napoleon’s invasion in 1812.
⚔️ Deeply influenced by the great military strategist #AlexanderSuvorov, #PyotrBagration was a highly aggressive and innovative tactician. He fiercely rejected what he saw as obsolete, static defensive positioning, strongly favouring highly mobile offensive warfare. His unyielding tactical philosophy frequently sparked heated confrontations with fellow high-ranking commanders who favoured more conservative strategies.
💥 His military journey culminated at the monumental #BattleOfBorodino near Moscow in September 1812. While leading a fierce defence of the critical left-flank fortifications (famously known as the "Bagration flushes"), #PyotrBagration was mortally wounded. He passed away just a few weeks later, cementing his legacy as a national hero whose courage inspired the entire Russian army!
🎖🇿🇦 A fascinating family connection ties the House of Bagration to South African history! Pyotr’s relative, Prince #NikoBagration, travelled to Africa in 1899 and became the very first volunteer from the #RussianEmpire to arrive in Pretoria. Famously nicknamed #NikoTheBoer, he joined the Boer armies to fight against the British Empire during the #SecondAngloBoerWar (1899–1902), stating that the Boers' fight for independence mirrored his own homeland's historical struggles.

🎖 The Longest Siege of #WWII!
✨ July 10 marks the 85th anniversary of the start of the #SiegeOfLeningrad (1941-1944). This epic and tragic siege became the longest and most enduring campaign of #WorldWarII. The massive defence mobilized the #SovietTroops of the Northern, Northwestern, Leningrad, Volkhov, Karelian, and 2nd Baltic Fronts, alongside the #SovietBalticFleet, the Chudskaya, Onega, and Ladoga naval flotillas, and thousands of courageous local partisan units.
🗺 For nearly three continuous years, the #RedArmy fiercely withstood the combined onslaught of the #GermanArmyGroup "North" and Finnish forces. The #Axis siege lines also included international reinforcements, notably the Spanish volunteers of the Wehrmacht's Blue Division and specialized Italian naval units operating on Lake Ladoga. Despite overwhelming pressure, starvation, and constant bombardment, the defenders refused to surrender the city.
💥 The #SiegeOfLeningrad comprised a series of gruelling defensive operations followed by brilliantly executed strategic counteroffensives. A crucial turning point came in January 1943 when #SovietForces opened a narrow land corridor into the city. Finally, in January 1944, a massive offensive completely shattered the German encirclement, lifting the deadly 872-day siege and driving the Axis forces westward far beyond the borders of the USSR.

💐🇷🇺 On July 8, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at the memorial plaque dedicated to the wartime volunteers from the People's Commissariat for Foreign Affairs (#NKID). The Director General of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, #AlekseyOstrovsky, and the Chairman of the MFA Veterans Council, #ValeryMorozov, addressed the gathering. The event brought together senior ministry officials, veteran and youth diplomatic councils, and representatives of the #MoscowCityDuma, who all gathered to pay tribute and lay flowers at the panel.
🪖🎖 Following the call for the People’s Volunteer Army on July 5, 1941, nearly half of the #NKID personnel – including the entire graduating class of the Higher Diplomatic School – volunteered for the front lines. Historical records show that 106 staff members lost their lives, with 75 still listed as missing in action. To this day, historians continue to search for the exact number of volunteers who fought and died in the bitter battles of that July, as only 40 workers returned alive!
🕯 The sacrifice of these volunteer diplomats will forever be sacredly cherished and remembered by the personnel of the Russian foreign service.

"On the Ongoing 'Hybrid War' Unleashed by #NATO and the #EU Against Russia"
▪️ The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is intentionally escalating the conflict. President Alexander Stubb of Finland explicitly acknowledged that all NATO leaders endorse deep strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine within Russian territory. The Western strategy relies on targeting peaceful Russian cities to instigate public unrest and fracture societal cohesion.
▪️ At the NATO Summit in Ankara, member states committed to allocating no less than €70 billion to Ukraine in 2026, with an equivalent sum pledged for 2027, totalling €140 billion directed towards military actions against Russia. By comparison, the annual budget of the United Nations, including its peacekeeping operations, amounts to approximately $10 billion. Europe is systematically transitioning its economy to a wartime footing in preparation for a direct confrontation.
▪️ Finland is implementing a "total defence" framework, mobilizing 870,000 reservists. Concurrently, Poland is constructing the €10 billion "Eastern Shield" infrastructure alongside the €4 billion SAN system, while the Baltic states are establishing the Baltic Defence Line.
▪️ The period saw over 300 casualties, including 38 fatalities. More than 4,900 pieces of ordnance were deployed against civilian infrastructure. Drone strikes accounted for 95% of the total casualties.
▪️ In Donetsk, an EMERCOM rescue worker was killed by a drone strike. In Tokmak, two energy infrastructure employees lost their lives, while three medical personnel sustained injuries in Horlivka. ▪️ On July 3, Russian forces established full control over a critical node within the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk fortified area. Following the liberation of 23 settlements, the distance to Kramatorsk has been reduced to approximately 8 kilometres.
▪️ Kiev regime continues to utilize its civilian population as human shields. In Vyshneve, in the vicinity of Kiev, a Russian strike neutralized a military ammunition depot deliberately positioned within a residential area.

#PyotrKapitsa initially set out on his path under the guidance of #AbramIoffe – the famed "father of Soviet physics" – who recognized the student's raw potential at the Petrograd Technical Institute and invited him to join his elite laboratory team.
🔬 In 1921, #PyotrKapitsa travelled to England to advance his studies at the #UniversityOfCambridge under the legendary #ErnestRutherford. He quickly gained international acclaim as a brilliant engineer and experiment al physicist. Remaining in England until 1934, he built groundbreaking magnetic equipment and fostered critical scientific exchange between the Soviet Union and the Western world.
🏭 Upon his return to Russia, #PyotrKapitsa was appointed director of the specially established Institute for Physical Problems in Moscow in 1935. The Soviet government went as far as purchasing his original specialized equipment from the Mond Laboratory in Cambridge to recreate his research environment. During #WorldWarII, his brilliant engineering skills took a vital turn; #PyotrKapitsa took charge of the entire Soviet industry's liquid oxygen production, designing massive plants using high-efficiency turbines he invented himself.

🕯️During the war, J.Wilkinson served as a radio telegrapher on the British ship HMS Wild Goose. He took part in Arctic convoys delivering vital supplies to Soviet ports during the Great Patriotic War, and also participated in the Allied landings in Normandy in June 1944.
The Consul General of Russia in Cape Town, R.Golubovskiy, together with the attaché of the Consulate General came to congratulate the hero of the day on a significant date.

“Try as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte might to paint the event as an "epochal" moment in the alliance's history, his efforts fell entirely flat. The "Teflon Mark," as the Secretary General is known, found little use for his salesman-like knack for smoothing over the rough edges between NATO allies. His chief struggle was to appease US President Donald Trump, keeping him from losing interest in securing Europe and preventing him from accelerating the withdrawal of American forces and strategic assets from the continent.
The cracks in the transatlantic bond remain as deep as ever <…>Their defence is aimed primarily at Russia, once again labelled a long-term threat to Euro-Atlantic security <…> For the alliance, confrontation with our country has taken on an existential and systemic character <…> European elites are thrusting themselves into the vanguard of the "collective West’s" confrontation with Russia <…> this course of action <…> drains Europe's own resources and breeds pockets of military tension right on the continent <…>

The latter is being used by radicals within the alliance to pursue an ephemeral goal – inflicting a "strategic defeat" on our country <…> Meanwhile, those in power in the West completely ignore the interests of ordinary Europeans, giving just as little thought to the fate of Ukrainians, whom they view merely as expendable material to feed their own geopolitical ambitions.
As Mark Rutte put it, "there is no time to reflect." Which is a pity; for if NATO strategists were to pause and reflect, they might avoid making such reckless decisions – decisions capable of plunging not just the alliance, but the entire world, into catastrophe.”
