| 2 |  Avoid using inversion in IELTS Speaking
“When candidates use inversions, they sound like an ancient philosopher or someone making a wartime speech. Some grammar books encourage inversions, but usually it sounds old-fashioned and unnatural.”
This is an excerpt from Mr Tim’s book, where he shares his professional view on using overly complicated grammar in IELTS Speaking.
I don’t remember using inversion in any of my Speaking tests. I often compare it to a poetic style. Imagine speaking in poetic Russian or Uzbek, well the reaction of native speakers probably wouldn’t be very positive
So, keep inversion for academic writing and speak the way native speakers actually speak.
No one speaks in poetic Russian, Uzbek, or English... well, at least not in the 21st century

| 3 |  MASTER THE LANGUAGE OF MAPS
You need to recognise direction vocabulary.
Here are some of the most useful words and phrases: (how many of them you didn't know?!)
• next to
• beside
• close to
• opposite
• across from
• beyond
• around the corner from
• on the far side of
• adjacent to
• go along
• go straight ahead
• head towards
• make your way to
• go past
• cross
• go towards
• at the crossroads
• at the junction
• at the intersection
• at the roundabout
• take the first/second exit
• before you reach...
• halfway along...
My advice: don't just memorise these words individually.
Take a simple map and practise following directions:
Go along the main road, walk past the library, and you'll find the café opposite the bank.
If you can visualise the route while listening, maps in IELTS Listening Part 2 become much easier.
Learn the language of directions before test day, and let the map guide you, not confuse you

It’s his second attempt.
His first score was 7.0, and this time he jumped straight to 8.0.
According to Orif himself, he didn’t show his full potential...
In other words, he got this score without even trying that hard. If he had pushed himself to his limit, 8.5 would have definitely been possible.
But maybe he doesn’t need 8.5)
The algorithm says:
Attempt 1: 7.0
Attempt 2: 8.0
Attempt 3: 9.0
So now it’s all about discipline.
C2 isn’t that far away.
But, of course, it doesn’t come that easily.

She didn’t study out of desperation. She didn’t need to be shouted at or pressured into studying. And I think this proves something important: love for education is far more powerful than punishment or intimidation.
Madina is just 0.5 away from an 8.5. And a 9.0 in Listening would have given her C2 overall...
But Madina doesn’t want to retake any of her skills. She’s happy with her result and plans to take the test again in the future

The problem is that in this type of Reading question, you are not actually given a question.
You are given a statement.
So many students simply start scanning the passage for keywords, hoping to find the same words somewhere in the text. This is exactly where the mistakes begin:
Statement:
The invention of the telephone had an immediate impact on communication.
Turn it into a question:
Did the invention of the telephone have an immediate impact on communication?
What makes this difficult for candidates?
Students often confuse finding the information with answering the question.
They see a keyword such as telephone or communication and think:
“I found it → TRUE.”
❌ Not necessarily
Text: It is undeniable that the invention of the telephone resulted in the significant development of communication
So did it have an immediate impact?
We don't know
Significant means important But was the impact immediate or not is
NOT GIVEN

| 11 |  Don’t risk using synonyms you’re not fully familiar with
Comprise and consist of are a good example.
In a process description, they can be used in essentially the same way:
✅ The manufacturing process comprises 10 steps.
✅ The manufacturing process consists of 10 steps.
However, you can’t interchange them when describing graphs:
✅ Italian students comprise 37% of the class
❌ Italian students consist of 37% of the class
Do NOT use CONSIST OF when describing statistics
The same applies to decrease and reduce
In Task 2, both can be used with an object:
✅ The government should decrease taxes for new entrepreneurs
✅ The government should reduce taxes for new entrepreneurs
But don’t assume that they are interchangeable when describing changes in a graph:
✅ The income level decreased
in Malaysia from 65% to 44%
❌ The income level reduced in Malaysia from 65% to 44%
Just because two words are synonyms in one structure doesn’t mean you can replace one with the other everywhere.

Avoid ending your answer with weak fillers:
❌ That's it.
❌ That's all.
❌ I've finished.
❌ So yeah...
❌ This is the end.
Instead, wrap up your response with a meaningful, memorable conclusion:
✅ "And that is precisely why I respect my cousin so much."
✅ "All in all, it was a trip to Khiva that I will never forget"
✅ "Hopefully, I'll have the opportunity to see this building in person one day"
however, if the examiner interrupts you before you can conclude because your two minutes are up, don't panic! You can still achieve a high score without the ending. Just ensure you never say awkward exit phrases ("Men bo'ldim / Я как бы всё") if you run out of things to say before the time is up

In many cases, they can help you eliminate wrong answers and identify distractions.
Look out for contrast and correction signals such as:
• but
• yet
• however
• though
• although
• even though
• whereas
• while
• by contrast
• in contrast
• conversely
• on the contrary
• alternatively
• despite
• in spite of
• even if
• regardless of
• rather than
• instead
These linking words often signal that the information mentioned just before or around them is not the final answer.
So, don't fall for the first piece of information you hear.
Listen for the linker and wait for the information that actually answers the question.

| 14 |  +1We can see seven paragraphs in this passage and ten headings on the next page.
I'd start with paragraph B as it has only three sentences, and it's not hard to understand that the fifth heading should be chosen there.
Then I'd read paragraph F which is a bit longer but not as big as other paragraphs. The
right time, minute and other details help me to choose heading I.
G paragraph would go third, and answer VIII is relevant there. So now I am ready to go to huge paragraphs but I have already found three easy answers, which means only seven headings remain in the list.
Try it too:
Small paragraphs first,
big paragraphs last.
This method helped me to get band 9.0 in reading within 30 minutes.

| 16 |  When working with Matching Headings questions, start with the shorter paragraphs.
You can NEVER use the same heading more than once, so once you identify the correct headings for the shorter paragraphs, you’ll have fewer options to choose from for the longer ones. This can save you a lot of time and make the whole process much simpler.
However, if you work through the paragraphs in order, you’re highly likely to exhaust yourself, waste valuable time, and make more mistakes.
Choose the order yourself. Don’t just go with the flow.

This answer is totally incoherent. The candidate is talking about computers first instead of answering the actual question.
In Part 1, answer the question directly. Don’t go around the bush.
Examiner: How often do you use a computer?
Candidate: Every single day! You see, most of my homework is given online, so I gotta download lots of files sent by my teacher on a daily basis. ✅✅✅
The examiner asked “How often?” - give them a frequency first, then add a short explanation.

As for Germany and France, their sales dropped dramatically... ❌❌❌
The main trends have already been mentioned in the overview, so there’s no need to repeat them in the body paragraphs.
Instead, state the trend in the overview and provide the evidence for that trend in the main body:
✅✅✅ Overall, China experienced the largest increase in sales during the period, while Germany and France saw significant declines.
To begin with, China’s sales stood at 41% in the first given year...
As for Germany and France, their sales initially made up 21% and 14%, respectively. ✅✅✅
• Overview = main trends
• Body paragraphs = figures and evidence
This makes your Task 1 response more concise and avoids unnecessary repetition.

God willing, I will teach 50 generations of students, and today, I’ve reached the halfway point. 25 generations behind. 25 more to go. 13 years of teaching have changed me in ways I could never have imagined when I started...
I feel more experienced than ever before. But strangely, the more I learn, the more I realize how much there is still to learn. I don't want to simply teach another 25 generations. I want to give them everything these first 25 generations have taught me.

8.0 in Speaking means demonstrating an exceptionally high level of fluency, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, confidence, and the ability to express ideas naturally
It is a score that many IELTS candidates work towards for years,and only a small number manage to achieve
