| 8 |  🇿🇦 One of the deepest mines in the world
South Africa is home to some of the deepest gold mines on the planet. The TauTona mine reaches a depth of about 3.9 kilometres, surpassed only by the nearby Mponeng mine (approximately 4 km) ⛏️. For many years, TauTona held the title of the world's deepest mine until its closure in 2018.
South Africa also holds around 83% of global platinum group metal reserves, making it the world's leading producer of these critical minerals 💎. In total, the country has 561 mines extracting gold, platinum, coal, diamonds and other minerals. It's no wonder that mining remains one of the main pillars of South Africa's economy! 🇿🇦⚒️

| 12 |  🎬 In just three days, on July 23, the 47th Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) kicks off in Durban. It's more than just a film showcase – it's one of Africa's premier cultural platforms, and this year's edition is built around the concept "The Prism of Heritage".
🌍 This year, the festival received over 2,600 submissions from more than 125 countries. Screenings will take place at the Suncoast CineCentre and other venues across the city. 16 июля председатель Государственной Думы Вячеслав Володин встретился с председателем Национального совета провинций парламента ЮАР Рефилве Марией Мтсвени-Ципане. Встреча состоялась в рамках официального рабочего визита южноафриканской делегации в Российскую Федерацию (13–17 июля 2026 года).
Стороны обсудили актуальные направления развития двустороннего межпарламентского сотрудничества и реализацию договорённостей, достигнутых на втором саммите «Россия–Африка». Володин напомнил о Декларации, подписанной по итогам саммита в 2023 году, которая поставила задачу укреплять межпарламентское взаимодействие. Также обсуждалось развитие сотрудничества в сферах экономики, сельского хозяйства, образования, науки и технологий.
Глава южноафриканского парламента высоко оценила развитие экономики России вопреки санкционному давлению и подчеркнула, что ЮАР полностью полагается на Россию как на стратегического партнёра, а отношения между странами основаны на доверии и взаимопонимании.

| 19 | 🇿🇦🇷🇺 Meeting of Parliamentary Speakers of Russia and South Africa held in Moscow
On July 16, Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin met with Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces of the South African Parliament Refilwe Maria Mtsweni-Tsipane. The meeting took place during the official working visit of the South African delegation to the Russian Federation (July 13–17, 2026).
The parties discussed current directions for developing bilateral interparliamentary cooperation and the implementation of agreements reached at the second Russia–Africa Summit. Volodin recalled the Declaration signed following the 2023 Summit, which set the task of strengthening interparliamentary interaction. Cooperation in the fields of economy, agriculture, education, science, and technology was also discussed.
The South African parliamentary leader highly praised Russia's economic development despite sanctions pressure and emphasised that South Africa fully relies on Russia as a strategic partner, with bilateral relations built on trust and mutual understanding.
