My name is Jefferey and I need advice from your audience because my mind is really troubled
I am the only son in my family. My parents are very successful and they made sure I had the best education. They sent me abroad where I completed both my degree and master’s degree.
Three years ago I returned to Ghana hoping to start life and build my future. I honestly thought my father would help me get started by connecting me to some of the companies he knows or allowing me to work under him and learn. Unfortunately that has not happened.
My father has refused to connect me to any company or let me work under him. He says he has already done his part by giving me a good education and that I should now use my qualifications and build my own life.
At first he was giving me a monthly allowance but he stopped. Recently he also informed me that from next month I will have to start paying rent for the apartment I live in. It is a three bedroom apartment and he wants me to pay GHC 5,000 every month.
At the moment I am surviving mostly on what my mother, sisters and girlfriend give me. Without them I honestly do not know how I would be managing.
What hurts me most is that I feel my father does not care about me. Sometimes I even feel like he hates me. I am his only son and I always imagined he would be the one to guide me into life and help me establish myself. Instead it feels like he has completely cut me off.
The pressure is becoming too much and I am now considering taking some money from my mother and returning to the US. Part of me feels that if I leave and go back abroad my father may eventually miss me and call me home. Another part of me feels I should just leave and build my life elsewhere. I honestly do not know what to do anymore.
My father is being too hard on me. Should I leave Ghana and return to the US
Or is there something I am failing to understand about what my father, maybe I'm not his son.

Recently things have been a little rough because he has started his womanizing and alcohol and when I complained about it,he told me he even wanted to tell me to move on because he has 30 days to go for training and he doesn’t want to come and continue the relationship.Someone I’ve given 9 years of my youth to

| 18 | Bro Kwaku, something really bad has happened in my family and my mother is being blamed seriously. Just last Sunday, my father sent my mother out of the house. Before he sent her out, he was already saying that he wanted a divorce, that she should go to her parents house, because he’s bringing a new lady to the house.
I’m not taking sides but my father was a bit irresponsible, when he gets money he uses it on money and other women. That has always been their argument. My mother is only 44 and my father was 48. I am their first born, I’m 19 and in the university (first year). It’s my mother who put me in school and she’s the one paying everything, my father never paid my fees or supported me, he said I should wait before going to university because I was too young, but my mother insisted and so he refused to support me.
I wasn’t even home, my mother called me around 4pm on Sunday that she was leaving to grandma’s place because my dad was drunk and was misbehaving and has thrown all her things out. I rushed home to speak to my father but he said he didn’t want our mom around and even said we can join her if we wanted.
Well, I love my mother and so do all my siblings cuz if we stay behind, our lives will be a mess so all of us (we’re 3) followed our mother to grandma’s place - that was Sunday; 12th April.
On Wednesday(April 15 - 3 days ago), my mom had a call. They said my father was dead, he was found dead in the room after he hadn’t been out all day till around 2pm. A friend came looking for him and he discovered him lifeless.
We all don’t wish him dead, he’s our father and my mother has been crying since she heard the news. But what’s worse is my father’s family. Everyone that calls my mother is blaming her for my father’s demise. They said she kiIIedd him, some are calling her a wintch, just because my father dieed right after sending her out.
They even said they’ll come and arrest her so she goes to explain herself. The past three days has been very rough for mom and I don’t know how to help her cuz she’s only been crying. People are calling her phone every second and they say, people are saying she’s a wintch and that she kiIIIed her husband and a whole lot. Please what do I do? | 2 179 |

| 20 | Kindly share for my story please. I met and started dating this guy in 2022. He came to buy from our shop, and asked for my number to send momo. That's how we started talking and he eventually proposed and I accepted.
He wasn't working, he said he was looking for a job. I wasn't working either so I was helping my mother with the shop. I gave this guy nothing less than Ghc 100 every day from the day we started dating until I stopped going to the shop in July last year. Sometimes I gave him Ghc 200 or even more. Not a day that I didn't give him money. From Monday to Sunday he came to the shop for his daily money and sometimes I give him a lot food items to stock his room.
In 2024 when his rent was due, I used my own money to rent a chamber and hall self contain @ Ghc 600 monthly for two years for him. I paid almost Ghc 15,000 in cash. I furnished the room and did everything to make the place nice. I exhausted my savings of Ghc 33,000 and even stole my mom's Ghc 7,800 from her bank account. I did all for this guy. He didn't even contribute a penny. He had a degree in Human Resources Management and didn't want any other job except a job in his field or an office work that could pay him nothing less than Ghc 5,000. He always made the statement, "I know my worth". For three years, no work. I gave him money daily. He never suffered and he said he'll marry me immediately he gets a good job.
July last year, my dad got me job at Land's commission so I stopped going to the shop. I couldn't give him daily money again but I still occasionally gave him money. Then he started to change, no calls no texts and always giving excuses. He has a job now, he's earning something good cuz he learnt some skills that are helping.
Then he asked for a break up. Not because I did something wrong. His reason is that we've been together too long so he is tired of me. As if he was joking, he's blocked me. Almost a month now I've heard nothing from him. My calls and messages don't go through. I've been sad and crying. I'm only typing this cuz I feel a little better now.
