CM Shri Devendra Fadnavis Tweets: Transforming OBC Welfare Through Unified Action Met and welcomed the Parliamentary Committee on the Welfare of Other Backward Classes during their study visit (2025-26) in Mumbai today. The development of the OBC community is the foundation of the state's progress, driven by coordinated welfare schemes from both the Central and State governments. The Government of Maharashtra has established an independent Other Backward Bahujan Welfare Department to accelerate various welfare schemes for OBC, VJNT, SBC and other backward classes. The state provides robust educational support, including scholarships, foreign study aid, and 100% fee waivers for girls pursuing higher education. To ensure accessibility, the government operates Ashram Schools and 72 hostels across 36 districts, while the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Swayam Yojana offers up to ₹60,000 to those who do not have access to government-run hostel facilities. Furthermore, the MAHAJYOTI Institute has successfully trained numerous students for UPSC and MPSC exams. Beyond education, the state empowers OBC youth through government-guaranteed loans for self-employment up to ₹15 lakh. Additionally, housing is being promoted through the ‘Modi Awas Gharkul Yojana’ for those excluded from Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Furthermore, independent subsidies are being provided for solar energy. The government remains committed to enhancing these services by incorporating recommendations from the Parliamentary Committee on the Welfare of Other Backward Classes to ensure the OBC community’s sustained growth and empowerment.
