“but idw go poly, the chances of getting to nus ntu smu is lower compared to jc” eligibility vs difficulty in jc, a standard combination like bcme keeps almost every door open. you’re eligible for everything from medicine to law because the curriculum is broad. in poly, you specialise early. for example, i’m in computer science, but i can’t apply for medicine even if i graduate with a perfect 4.0 gpa. i’m simply not eligible because my diploma isn’t science-based. (i’m not in biomed etc) the "lower percentage" of poly students in certain uni courses isn't always about grades; it’s because many diplomas aren't recognised as prerequisites for specific degrees. “then i go poly for what sia” if you already know what you want to do, poly can actually be faster than the jc route. here’s how: • university accelerated pathway (uap): for courses like mine (computer science), we students can take uni-level modules during their final year. • graduate earlier: schools like nus, smu, and sutd collaborate on this initiative with sp,potentially shaving one full year off our degree. • cost savings: by skipping a year of university, we could save a significant amount on tuition fees and enter the workforce sooner. the bottom line jc is great if you need more time to decide. but if you have a specific career path in mind, poly isn't just a different route, it’s a strategic shortcut that gives you a head start on your career and saves you money.

jc isnt harder than poly, and neither is poly harder than jc. they are so vastly different that you simply cannot compare them. while the path from jc to university is more linear, both leads to the same destination. if university is the summit of a mountain, jc is like taking the steeper, more direct path, while poly is the longer, more gradual route. both paths has its sets of challenges, pros & cons. ultimately, whichever way you choose to climb, you will still reach your end goal of university.

another take: don’t feel pressured to pick a top jc/poly course with a low cop just because your score allows it. a good score means to open more doors, but doesn’t dictate which one you must walk through. my secondary school classmate got 8 distinctions for his o levels and yet chose the poly route, and he was constantly questioned for his choice. but if you’re passionate about the field you’re studying (like him) or certain about your future career path, don’t hesitate. choosing a jc/ poly course with a higher cop isn’t a “waste” of a good score :) ultimately, there’s many more factors that are significantly more important, the distance to the school, the vibes, what does it offer in general. that’s just my two cents, as i’ve personally met many people who scored extremely well for o’s in school and the first question asked is: “why didn’t you go to xjc??”

haiii if u got a score that u cn go to either jc or poly PLSPLSPLSSSSS think ab it carefully. dont go to jc for the status or cs u think its a straight route to uni. dont go to poly cs u think its more lax. pls consider the way you study and environment u thrive it bestt. heres my take: poly: while many think that poly is a more difficult route to get into uni, its completely untrue as now more and more poly students are getting into unis and local unis. personally for my course, ard 50% get into uni (or local uni i cnt rmb). as for the lax part, yes poly's breaks are vv frequent and u study as much as u break but this structure requires students to be disciplined and go from holiday mood to a studying mood vv fast. personally these are how exams are structured: 4wks of sch, ca1 spread over 2wks, 3wks break, 2-3wks of sch, ca2, 1wk study break, finals. ure gna b so busy during ca2 its q hard to study for finals and unless u constantly revise, ure cooked for finals. but the're also good parts of poly like the networking opportunities, internships and work hard play hard culture

choose poly if: u have good time management, are passionate ab smt and want to gain people skills and real work experiences

jc: ive heard alot ab jc being mugging n mugging n mugging which is technically true but its also structured to be mugmugmug for 8 months then hols for 8mnths (y1-y2) which gives students time to relax and start prepping for the next yr and ultimately alvls. i legit think its q stressful regardless of the constant breaks (similar to sec sch) and i personally cannot handle it. but what i see in jcs are strong sch spirit and trauma bonding which is honestly sweet i cant say much ab jc since im not IN a jc but this is js what ive observed

choose jc if ure: disciplined, consistent and hv good work-life balance

tbh both are super demanding its js the different pacing n grpwork vs indiv work. this is js my personal opinionnn 🙏 if u hv any qns ill try my best to answer and for jc students i cn ask my frns ab ittt

i honestly don't remember receiving my o level results i don't even remember the grade for each subject what i remember is feeling my whole life depended on what i got know that you're allowed to feel whatever you feel today celebrate and go crazy if you did well. you seriously earned it. years of hard work paid off if you didn't do well, it's okay to feel like shit. you don't need to fake being okay you're the same person before and after opening that envelope the grades don't change who you are. they don't change your curiosity or how hard you're willing to fight your path will look different from your friends'. that's not a problem, that's just life today is intense. let yourself feel it. then keep going 💪
