OpenAI just published 722 math papers generated by an upcoming, unreleased AI model.

OpenAI is rolling out text watermarking for ChatGPT and Codex in the European Union.
The system works by subtly tweaking word choices behind the scenes using a hidden rule. Humans will not notice any difference in how the text reads, but a specialized detector can spot it. If the text is heavily rewritten, however, the watermark may be lost.
The feature will appear in text responses across all tiers in the EU over the coming weeks. In the API, developers worldwide can already turn it on voluntarily for select models. Claude already uses a similar system for all of its users.

Mistral has unveiled a massive 1-trillion-parameter open-weight model named Mistral Large 4, internally dubbed Le Chonk.

AI is now pulling images straight out of the human brain.
Researchers built a model that uses MRI data to reconstruct whatever picture a person is looking at. The neural network analyzes brain activity and attempts to recreate the original visual with matching colors, composition, and object placement.
It is far from perfect at the moment. For example, a slice of cake might get turned into a stack of sandwiches, or a dog might suddenly morph into a goat. Still, the team’s next target is even more ambitious: pulling visual images directly from human imagination and dreams.

Google researchers estimated that SpaceX's Starship needs around 1,800 launches over ten years to push delivery costs down to $200 per kilogram. Once shipping cargo to orbit gets that cheap, running data centers in space starts making financial sense as launch costs drop with higher flight frequency.
Major hurdles like cooling, repairs, and long-term hardware reliability in orbit still need solutions. Even so, early testing is already underway, with Google sending its first test server equipped with tensor processing chips into orbit.

Cloudflare has launched two open decision-making AI models, Clef and Clef-flash.
Instead of generating new text, these models pick from a set of predefined options and return probability scores. For example, they can determine whether an incoming support ticket is urgent and decide which team should handle it.
Clef can classify both images and text with a context window of up to 64 KB. According to Cloudflare's benchmarks, the lightweight Clef-flash responds in about 39 milliseconds, while the more capable Clef takes around 209 milliseconds.
The model weights are available on Hugging Face. Cloudflare is offering custom fine-tuning for enterprise clients and plans to launch a self-service fine-tuning platform in the future.

AI just cracked a 217-year-old cipher from the Napoleonic era. AI engineer Carter Church used GPT-6 Astra to solve a historical code that was listed in catalogs of unsolved ciphers.
The engineer had no prior experience with breaking ciphers, but the model handled the challenge in just six hours. The source material was a scan from a 1969 military journal featuring 24 lines of handwritten symbols. Astra recognized the signs, applied a partially known key, and ran a script to uncover the remaining values by cross-checking them against French vocabulary and repeating patterns in the image.
The decoded letter revealed a summary of French and allied troop positions right before the war with Austria in 1809. Church has published the cipher key and a script to verify the decryption.
