"Especially needful of prayers are those parishioners who in their secular lives are going up the ladder of worldly success, using their skills, talents, and scholarship. Such people are under the direct surveillance of the devil’s allies. They are tempted by promises of further promotions, profit, and success. We have no right to behave like naïve children. We should know that in contemporary society there is a “ceiling” for all who fix their eyes on worldly success. This is the devil’s barrier past which one can advance only by joining the Communist party or the Masonic lodge, that is, only by forfeiting one’s eternal salvation to the enemy of humankind. This “ceiling” can rightly be called baptism into Satan, or disavowal of Christ. This is why such parishioners are desperately in need of our prayer. We need to remember them in the proskomedia, as well as during the entire Liturgy, especially after “It is meet…” and at the end of the Liturgy, when the Holy Gifts are consumed. We need to beseech the Lord on their behalf with bows and prostrations, and stand to our full pastoral stature before the Lord of Powers, lifting up our hands and mentally protecting these souls subject to such fiery temptations which few can overcome." - St. Vitaly of Montreal
