The Curious Case of ORNβs "Private" Public Parks π³βοΈ
Hi everyone,
Iβve been observing a rather fascinating urban governance loophole unfolding in Old Rajinder Nagar, near the Karol Bagh metro. As someone working in the area, the current scorching heat makes one truly appreciate the simple shade of a tree. Unfortunately, finding a neighborhood park that actually permits the public is proving to be quite the administrative puzzle.
It seems the local parks have undergone a quiet "soft-privatization" by the surrounding societies.
For instance, one park is now strictly "women-only" with such tight time restrictions that it remains locked for most common women also as it shut during peak heat hours. The vigilant guards won't even let you stand in the shade on the street outside!
Another former common area has been cleverly re-designated as a "dog park" an innovative loophole to legally keep the general public at bay.
Unless you are a pet or fit a highly specific demographic, your only reprieve from the heat is a long trek all the way to Sindhi Park.
It appears the highly influential residents of these gated societies have successfully ring-fenced public land for their exclusive use.
If someone can help in making this issue reach the right people who can do something about it, it will be a blessing for common folk living, preparing and working in ORN. | 10 595 |
