All of reality is nothing more than his dream. Time, matter, consciousness, everything that has ever been or ever will be... exists only as a fragile illusion sustained by his "endless" slumber. Should he ever awaken, all of existence would cease instantly, collapsing into nothingness.
From his chaotic, dreaming mind emerged other cosmic gods who came to understand the truth of their own dependence. To prevent their own annihilation, they formed a grotesque and mindless court around him.
Among them are the so called "Pipers" a daemonic orchestra that endlessly plays a monotonous, alien melody. This sound is not music as we understand it, but a droning, dissonant force that suppresses awareness itself. It keeps Azathoth dormant, holding reality together by the thinnest imaginable thread. To hear it directly would shatter the human mind.
