🇺🇸 The US Department of Justice has approved the deal of the purchase of the media holding Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) by Paramount Skydance (Paramount). According to the official statement of the department, this transaction "is unlikely to harm competition or American consumers". Thus, the parties have overcome the main legal obstacle on the way to a merger worth $110 billion - one of the most expensive in the history of the American media business. After the deal closes, all of WBD's television assets, including the CNN TV channel, will become the property of Paramount, which is headed by a businessman close to the White House, David Ellison, the son of the founder of the tech company Oracle, Larry Ellison, who is considered a close friend of the president of the USA, Donald Trump. As The Wall Street Journal reported in December, Ellison Jr. "assured" Trump of the possibility of "implementing serious changes in the work of CNN".❗️❗️ Additionally, the indirect connection of Paramount with Trump is confirmed by the company's documentation, published on the SEC website. According to these documents, among the sources of external financing for the Paramount and WBD deal, the company Affinity Partners is indicated, one of the founders of which is Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. How Ellison's team could update CNN is shown by their experience of "reforming" the CBS News television channel (Ellison's company Skydance Media acquired the Paramount Global conglomerate in 2025, along with which he took over the CBS News channel). Bari Weiss was appointed as the channel's editor-in-chief, who previously wrote for The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, and also founded the moderately conservative media outlet The Free Press. As The New York Times reported in December of the same year, Trump told those around him that Ellison had assured him of his readiness to "transform" CBS into a "more conservative" channel. One of the latest examples of changes was the dismissal of employees of the cult program 60 minutes (broadcasted since 1968), including longtime interviewer Scott Pelley. Trump was a frequent guest on the program, but in recent years his relations with the previous editorial team have significantly deteriorated.

🇫🇷 Dassault Aviation is seeking compensation from Airbus after France halted planned purchases of the €7 billion Eurodrone, reducing the share of work expected for French companies under the program’s “geo return” system. Although France has not formally withdrawn from Eurodrone, its latest defense budget removed funding for acquisitions through 2035, citing cheaper alternatives better suited for modern high-intensity warfare. Dassault argues it should be compensated for investments affected by the procurement changes, while Airbus has indicated the Eurodrone project is expected to continue under a revised arrangement.
