Repost from To the Worlds

Whenever you read about history, you are awakened by the realization that we are nothing but a mere point in the generations of people who died before us. When you contemplate how their eras were filled with events, and how each one of them had a story and a dream, yet they all eventually came to an end, and so did all the good and evil within them; and when you realize that we will be no different from them, and that after some time we too will all disappear, and our existence on this earth will come to an end—you realize how heedless we truly are. You simply must love Friday! For it holds a time when supplications are answered—a time that connects you to the heavens, with your heart prostrating humbly before your Lord, pouring out to Him your distress, sorrow, weakness, and longing… A time when your soul finds rest and replenishes itself. O Allah (my Lord), fulfill our hopes and answer our supplications. Grant us what we ask of You; indeed, You are capable of all things. O Allah (my Lord), send Your blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and bless him, his family, and all his companions.

How Do People Deal with the Loss of a Blessing? People fall into three categories: The first deeply feels the loss of the blessing, yet remains patient, praises Allah, and earnestly seeks reward from Him. They understand that there is wisdom in what has happened, so they do not give heed to the whisperings of devils among jinn and humankind. Even in the midst of loss, they experience Allah’s nearness and support, ease, the blessings of contentment, and divine guidance and success. The second deeply feels the loss of the blessing, but reacts with resentment and complaint. They spend their time lamenting, neglecting to seek reward from Allah, and see no problem in making concessions that compromise their religion and creed. Thus, they live in misery, deprivation, and suffering. The third deeply feels the loss of the blessing and takes it as a convenient justification for entering into what is forbidden and sinking into its evils. They combine loss with disobedience. Their hearts grow hard, their insight becomes blind, and they stumble about in misguidance. As for the first, this is the pious believer who knows that what is with Allah is better and more lasting, and who does not exchange what is better for what is inferior. Their aspiration is directed toward the highest ranks of Paradise. They know that this worldly life is temporary, that both giving and withholding are from Allah Almighty, and that those who remain patient will receive their reward in full. As for the second, this is the one who takes a middle course: they have mixed righteous deeds with bad ones. Their poor expectations of Allah and their lack of proper manners toward Him overcame them, so they failed the test of affliction and gained nothing but anguish. They neither remained patient and earned the reward, nor did their resentment bring them anything. Thus, they lived in hardship and deprivation. As for the third, this is one who has wronged their own soul and ruined it through sin. Such a person takes injustice, transgression, and consuming people’s wealth unlawfully lightly. Thus, it is by observing how people deal with loss that we come to know their true character and their ranks. Allah Almighty changes one condition into another whenever He wills, and no gift can compare with His gifts. So glad tidings to the one who is tested, remains patient, and does not cheapen their soul for the sake of people’s base desires. Layla Hamdan

How beautiful is the feeling when a person is treated with kindness, receives help, and finds things made easy for them by people—a feeling that fills the heart with joy! Yet, on the flip side, how burdensome it is for a person to play the role of the benefactor, offering help and facilitation to others, especially when it heavily conflicts with one's own interests and busy schedule. We must live the role [of the giver] in order to truly appreciate giving.

Love for the sake of Allah grows stronger with the strength of uprightness and piety, and grows weaker with their weakness! Therefore, the state of love for the sake of Allah does not endure with one who deviates from the path of the believers, openly commits sins, and acts arrogantly toward advice. In accordance with the degree of deviation, the curves of hatred for the sake of Allah rise! Love for the sake of Allah supports the believer and increases him in steadfastness; if one sees otherwise, then flight, flight! There is no despair over what is fragile, and one never regrets love for the sake of Allah and hatred for the sake of Allah! The greatness of Islam is safety!"

He taught man what he knew not." [Al-Alaq: 5] This verse halts you to remind you, O servant, of a reality that many people overlook: that everything you have learned, every door of comprehension and perception that has opened for you, and every truth you reached after ignorance is solely by the grace of Allah and His teaching you. You did not possess knowledge; then Allah bestowed upon you its means, opened its doors for you, enabled you to understand, inspired you to question and search, and then showed you of the truths what you did not know. From here, the very first door of knowledge is not the abundance of reading, nor the vastness of what is memorized, but rather magnifying Allah who taught you what you knew not. The more Allah is magnified in your heart, the more you realize the value of knowledge, and the value of yourself before Him: a servant learning by the favor of his Lord, not a human being independent in his own intellect and knowledge. Therefore, among the greatest keys to opening the door of knowledge are: sincerity of religion to Allah, magnifying Him, and the heart's absolute need of Him. For whoever recognizes the Teacher magnifies what He taught, and whoever magnifies Allah, that inherits in him awe and humility. And whoever humbles himself before the truth, Allah opens for him of knowledge what never crossed his mind. So the issue is not merely that you learn, but that you know Who taught you. O Allah, teach us what we do not know... O Allah, increase us in knowledge.

The first key to awakening your heart, your family, your community, and your Ummah is to correct your starting point once again—to remedy the gaps in your understanding of Allah Most High, the human soul, and the realities of steadfastness and confronting the various adversaries—so that your journey may become more balanced, clear, and successful. No worldly qualification or certificate can ever produce the tranquility of faith or the blessings of steadfastness. Except the certificate of the Hereafter.

O Allah, relieve the distress of the people of Algeria... fires that have burned the green and the dry, destroyed massive areas, and left behind a lesson and an admonition... Nothing remains in this worldly life... except what saves you from the Fire on the Day of meeting Allah, the Exalted... Indeed, the scenes of cooperation to comfort the people of affliction are nothing new for the people of Algeria; they have a record of generosity and benevolence with the tragedies of Muslims... So let the Muslims not be heedless of them in their calamity today... May God bless them and grant them peace

To Love Allah! Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy on him, said: “Indeed, one of the greatest counsels is that you love Allah with all your heart, all your mind, and all your intention. This is the true essence of Hanifiyyah, the religion of Abraham, which is the foundation of the laws of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an.” Al-Tuhfah al-‘Iraqiyyah

If you reflect on the biographies of the Companions, you will find Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq to be the first to believe in the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the quickest to respond to his command, and the foremost in embracing this religion with unwavering strength—never faltering or showing weakness, even in the direst circumstances. His certainty was immense, as was the case with all the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). Thus, responding to the command of Allah without procrastination or hesitation is the primary solution to our problems.
