| 4 |  🤓Russian Grammar🤓
Plural of the nouns
In Russian, in the nominative case, you make a plural by using the letters "и", "ы", "я" or "а".
For masculine nouns:
If the word ends in a consonant, add “ы”. (unless the last consonant is Г, К, Х, Ж, Ч, Ш, Щ then add "и" as per the spelling rules.)
Replace “й” with “и”
Replace “ь” with “и”
For feminine nouns:
Replace “я” with “и”
Replace “ь” with “и”
Replace “а” with “ы” (unless previous consonant is Г, К, Х, Ж, Ч, Ш, Щ then replace with "и" as per the spelling rules.)
For neuter nouns:
Replace “о” with “а”
Replace “е” with “я” (don't forget the spelling rules)
Some examples:
студент (student) - студенты (students)
мальчик (boy) - мальчики (boys)
книга (book) - книги (books)
газета (newspaper) - газеты (newspapers)
здание (building) - здания (buildings)

Gender of Russian nouns
Russian Neuter Nouns Exceptions
Most declinable neuter nouns end in -о, -е or -ё.
11 nouns end in -я. Neuter nouns that end in other letters are, as a rule, indeclinable nouns borrowed from other languages.
1. Neuter Nouns Ending in -я
There are 10 standard neuter nouns ending in -мя:
бремя 'burden', время 'time', вымя 'udder', знамя 'banner, flag', племя 'tribe', имя 'name', пламя 'flame', семя 'seed, semen', стремя 'stirrup', темя 'sinciput'
- noun дитя 'child'
2. Nouns ending in -и, -у, -ю, -э that are indeclinable nouns borrowed from other languages and denote nonliving objects.
меню - menu
такси - taxi
рагу - ragout
каноэ - canoe
