But Russian loves its exceptions and the prepositional case is no exception Here are the most common exceptions where you’ll see -у instead of -е: в лесу (in the forest) — not в лесе на мосту (on the bridge) — not на мосте в году (in the year) — not в годе на берегу (on the shore) — not на береге в ряду (in a row) — not в ряде And here are 5 more exceptions to keep in mind: в углу (in/at the corner) — not в угле на носу (on the nose) — not на носе в строю (in formation / in line) — not в строе на ходу (on the move / while moving) — not на ходе в долгу (in debt) — not в долге 💡 Why does this happen? These are old forms preserved in modern Russian.
