🏴 YPG/YPJ INT: The 15th of February - black day for freedom and hope The 15th of February marks a black day for revolutionaries and freedom loving people worldwide. On this day in 1999, people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan was abducted in an international complot and consequentially put in prison in Imrali (Turkey). The life and philosophy of Abdullah Öcalan inspired millions of people to fight for democracy, ecology and women’s liberation. As Internationalists, we came to join the Rojava Revolution because we found inspiration within the revolution that is based on Öcalans philosophy. As internationalist members of YPG/YPJ, we condemn the international conspiracy. But however they try to attack our longing for freedom, they will never be able to take what we found here: hope.

⚠️Scenes from the devastating aftermath of the earthquake in Kurdistan, Syria & Turkey! Reports of critical aid not reaching the victims as desperation turns into anger. This disaster & its political dimension: Thousands of deaths could have been avoided. The Turkish state and the ruling AKP-MHP regime have embezzled billions earmarked for this very disaster, took billions in bribes from construction sector & ignored severe warnings for years!

The devastation especially close to the epicentre, the Kurdish region of Maraş (Tr: Kahramanmaras), Semsûr (Tr: Adiyaman) & Hatay province is enormous. According to various sources on the ground close to no aid has reached the Kurdish regions in the Southeast. All of this in the midst of winter with temperatures way below 0 degree during the night. Journalists criticising government reaction to the catastrophe were immediately arrested. In a TV speech Erdogan threatened those who point out the regimes failures. We cannot consider this catastrophe without its political dimension: Thousands of deaths could have been avoided. The Turkish state and the ruling AKP-MHP regime have embezzled billions that were earmarked for the very emergency that has now occurred, they have allowed the construction industry to build cheap multi-storey buildings in an earthquake risk zone beyond all reason & have collected bribes in the billions. Provinces with Kurdish population majority waiting for days desperately for support.

Fight against ISIS in Rojava continues: Operation “Cizire Thunderbolt” According to SDF Press Center, large quantities of explosives were found in hidden weapons caches during Operation "Cezire Thunderbolt", likely intended for prisoner escape operations. Results of Operation “Cezire Thunderbolt”: - 55 villages & farms swept in al-Hol, Tal Hamis, & Tal Brak + Syrian-Iraqi border areas - 102 ISIS members arrested (incl. Suspects responsible for building VBIED used in Al-Sina Prison attack) - plans to attack population of Qamishlo on Christmas/New Years Eve unveiled In a statement Tribe elders from the region voiced gratitude for SDF’s effort in the region and called for further operations to get rid of remaining ISIS cells in the region and provide security for the local population The operation was originally planned to be launched in Nov, but due to Turkish attacks had to be postponed.
