Russia, Venezuela, Iran, China, etc all survive due to a loyal military. Bolivia was subject to a coup once because this aspect of military loyalty wasn't totally secured. Shouldn't they have at least taken care of this issue since the coup government was thrown out some years ago?

The Assange plea deal is not perfect, but the alternative of extradition would have been much, much worse for journalists around the world. Basically, the US would have a right to snatch you and send you to their territory and be treated with no due process rights, while claiming to be a bastion of "freedom of the press."
