The Ethiopian Human Rights Defenders Center is deeply concerned about the arrest of journalist Yehualashet Zerihun, Program Director at Tirita 97.6 FM. Yehualashet was arrested on September 11, 2023, and the reason for his arrest is yet unknown. EHRDC learned today that he was taken to Afar, Awash Arba by the police. As the result of our art auction on our last 16days of activity, The Ethiopian Human Rights Defenders Center and German Embassy Addis Ababa donated 150 packages (600 pieces) of reusable sanitary pads to the Ghandi Memorial Hospital one stop Center. EHRDC is pleased with the release of social media influencer Yidnekachew Kebede, but remains highly concerned by the recent surge in the detention of journalists, including Ashebir Tsegaye, the manager of Yegna TV, political analyst Nigussie Berhanu, and journalist Tewodros Zerfu.
