Which one weights more on hiring process in the us: gpa or experience?
Question I received earlier. Be it the US or somewhere else, recruiters follow the same criteria for hiring.
GPA:
GPA is the #1 thing that makes you stand out as a student. When you are new to the hiring process, recruiters don’t expect you to have crazy experience. They know you are still in college, and that will probably be your first job. So one of the main ways in which you can stand out is GPA. However, when I was applying, I didn’t have the most stellar GPA. I could explain the story behind it, which mattered more.
Experience:
Apparently, companies like Deloitte receive thousands of application. You can’t stand out at all with an empty resume. How to be? You are in school for a reason. Join clubs, take on positions, do on campus jobs, certification programs, and anything you can fill your resume with. Since I didn’t have any real job experience when I was applying, I did a bunch of projects with SQL, Tableau, and Excel. I just took large datasets and played around with them to simulate something they do in real jobs. So yes, trying to show yourself from the most positive light possible is what is expected of you.
Storytelling and networking:
Recruiters don’t really read the submitted applications - at least that’s what I think. Students who land interviews are the ones who shook hands and put themselves out there. But just shaking hands isn’t enough. When you meet new people, you should be able to tell good stories, keep the conversation moving, and establish the human touch. That’s where the real impact happens and that’s where you start getting noticed.

Repost from Xayrulla Hamidov official

Deloitte University is a huge campus. Apart from learning facilities and labs, it has hotels, recreational areas, restaurants and coffee shops that all belong to Deloitte, and are therefore free for employees.
Just a little room tour

I’m back at Deloitte university for a leadership conference!
Last time when I came here in November 2024, it was for newly hired students. Now, since we already started, we are coming here for the second time.
Deloitte university was the BEST experience. I’m so excited to be back.
