📍 Why in News?
✅ Shaheed Udham Singh is remembered for his supreme sacrifice in India’s freedom struggle against British colonial rule.
📍 About
✅ Born on 26 December 1899 at Sunam, Sangrur district, Punjab, into a Sikh family.
✅ Orphaned at a young age and raised at the Central Khalsa Orphanage, Amritsar, where he was given the name Udham Singh.
✅ Also known as Sher Singh, Ude Singh, Frank Brazil, and Ram Mohammad Singh Azad, symbolising the unity of Hinduism, Islam, and Sikhism.
📍 Revolutionary Activities
✅ Witnessed the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre (1919), which inspired him to join the revolutionary movement.
✅ Worked in Mesopotamia, Uganda Railways, and later travelled to the United States, where he joined the Ghadar Party and founded the Azad Party in Chicago.
✅ Joined the Ghadar Party (1924) and was associated with the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA).
✅ Arrested under the Arms Act (1927) and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.
✅ During imprisonment at Mianwali Jail, he came into contact with Bhagat Singh, who deeply influenced his revolutionary ideology.
✅ On 14 March 1940, he assassinated Michael O’Dwyer at Caxton Hall, London, in retaliation for the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.
✅ During his trial, he adopted the name Ram Mohammad Singh Azad to symbolize India’s religious unity.
📍 Execution & Legacy
✅ Executed by hanging at Pentonville Prison, London, on 31 July 1940.
✅ His ashes were repatriated to India in 1974 and are preserved at the Jallianwala Bagh Memorial.
✅ Revered as “Shaheed-i-Azam” (Great Martyr) for his courage and sacrifice.
✅ His birth anniversary is observed on 26 December.

✅ Sets up the National Coach Accreditation Board (NCAB) to standardise coaching qualifications and strengthen sports science support.
✅ Creates a Unified Digital Sports Platform for athlete databases, talent assessment, and funding, while expanding the Fit India Movement to remote and border areas.
