The United States and the European Union, India’s two largest trading partners, have flagged a range of regulatory and non-tariff barriers that they say are undermining the benefits of India’s efforts to open its economy and integrate with global supply chains. The concerns, raised during discussions on India’s eighth trade policy review at the WTO, include high tariffs, norms meant to protect human, animal and plant health known as sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade (TBTs), quality-control orders, restrictions on services and digital trade, local-content requirements and barriers to government procurement.

India Condemns Houthi Strikes on Saudi Arabia, Warns of Threat to Regional Stability India has strongly condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabian territory, particularly the targeting of civilian and economic infrastructure. The Ministry of External Affairs said such attacks are “unacceptable” and undermine regional security and stability. New Delhi also expressed concern over the impact on trade routes and freedom of navigation through the Bab-el-Mandeb, a crucial maritime corridor connecting the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The statement came after a series of Houthi strikes reportedly hit areas including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, with energy facilities among the targets. The attacks reportedly left 73 people wounded and triggered fires at several sites. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed the group targeted facilities linked to Saudi oil giant Aramco as well as an air base. Saudi authorities described the attacks as a dangerous escalation.

The Union Cabinet has approved eight railway multitracking projects covering nine states estimated to cost ₹20,804 crore, informed Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Spanning 31 districts across 9 states, the projects will add approximately 1,196 km of track, boost freight capacity by 74 million tonnes, and improve regional line capacity by 2029–30.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said he would not attend the inauguration of the Mumbai-Goa highway as he was “ashamed” that the project had taken so long to complete. Rather than attending a formal inauguration, Gadkari said he would personally inspect the road when he travels from Mumbai to Goa by car in October, and assess whether the road had finally been made convenient for motorists and other travellers.
